I originally had Whyte lasting 4 Rnds. With some competitiveness from him. But that WAS one easy and very short walk in the park for Moses.
Hindsight is 20/20, its why i love that we still have these threads up. I've had people try and revise history and say things like "no one believed Whyte stood a chance" and then we can just point to these threads to see that yeah they did.
Maybe Whyte can finally get his fight against wilder now? Might be people curious to find out just who is more shot at this point
Same here, I mean he looked washed in the Tetteh fight but I was hoping he was raised up for one last hurrah.
LOL. Every Brit fan I know had Whyte being blown over in a round. I'm not even joking. He was clearly shot to pieces. No hindsight required.
Welp. unanswered questions still about Ituama: stamina, chin, heart. no man gets it all. One of these is going to be an issue. And honestly, if it’s stamina, I don’t know if it matters that much. If he’s got the chin to take some solid shots and can keep up his assault for 5-6 rounds without getting discouraged if he’s not getting an immediate KO, I don’t know who could beat him. Mike Tyson always had that issue of his height and reach. Ituama doesn’t. He’s got a 79in reach, and is at least a legitimate 6’4”. Yet, **** me, he does appear to have the same combo of power and speed. He’s even got the two fisted power — his right hook appears just as hard as his left.
Ha! I've put my hands up over the result multiple times, as it was a truly excellent win personally. Itauma is a huge huge prospect, and I'm really excited to see what the future holds for him. He does still have a lot of unanswered questions though.
Don't get me wrong Itauma is a great prospect who is probably touching contender status, but there have been prospects that have looked great but have failed tests such as chin, stamina, ring IQ and so on. Price, Amir Khan, Anderson, Bakole, Audley and many more...
absolutely. I even pointed out the unanswered questions. But imagine a world where he’s got a good chin, he’s got the heart to stay in it a rough fight, and his stamina is fine. Won’t happen. But if it did? Yikes. He’d have a solid 15 years of looking as dominant as Mike Tyson did for a few.
Well, that's not true, but both are completely different scenarios regardless. Ruiz was 29 and boxing in America, against a bloke who had already shown vulnerability. Whyte was shot to bits unlike Ruiz, and 37. Itauma is also a lot better than Joshua, and that will be proven over time. Itauma only needs one decent win to match Joshua whose only 'good' win is against an inactive, old, retiring Klitschko who was coming off a loss and had been stopped three times by mediocre opponents already.
There's not one Brit who thinks it was a "truly excellent win". That's a really perplexing comment because Whyte was old and shot to pieces, and had been inactive for years. What makes it a "truly excellent win"? The bloke had also been put over thrice during his prime and he is nowhere near that. Most Brit fans had it down as a clear R1 knockover job, and it was.
Itauma prior to fighting Whyte had fought journeymen at best, his best win was someone ranked 100th worldwide, it was a huge jump going from McKean/Balogun to Whyte. It isn't like Itauma has won every fight in his career inside a round, he has lasted the distance with part-timers multiple times (not a bad thing though!) Whyte had literally beaten world champions in Parker and contenders in Povetkin and Chisora, he was a good fighter and certainly more proven than Itauma was going into the fight. In terms of Whyte being old and shot - I suspected before the fight that Whyte may not have been as shot as it seemed to the eye, as Whyte was the type of fighter where he would have bad sloppy nights if he didn't train properly, and really good nights if he trained seriously.
