Evander. .. He had Bowe, Moorer, Tyson and Lewis to contend with. Hence why his career is defined by being a multiple time champion rather than a long standing dominant one..

Politics can play a role as well as the strength of the field.

For example did anybody get an easy title defense in the 30s

Yes Joe Louis had a couple, but this was only tolerated because he also took the tougher ones.

Lewis had a tough division too. Golota, Holyfield, Tua, Vitali.

Lewis had a great run in the 90 s early 00s.
Only the two Ls , which he easily avenged.
    Great fighter.

Yeah I really don’t know if ANY champion could have gone from 1990 to 1999 and had a completely uninterrupted reign. Not only did you have a lot of very elite heavyweights at the top but there were constantly quality prospects coming up. Even the journeyman in those days were dangerous.

Riddick Bowe may have had the best chance to reign the 1990's had he taken the sport seriously IMO.

    A truly wasted talent sadly.

I agree he was a wasted talent. But I really think the talent pool was too deep . That and his defense was lacking causing him to take way too much punishment too early
