Waiting for Usyk to age further.

 

He's in no hurry to fight Usyk that's for sure.

 

It would have been a decent step-up for Itauma personally at the stage of his career. He can't say now though everyone is ducking him (Hrgovic, Franklin) when he could be fighting Sanchez for the IBF eliminator.

Sanchez would have given him some rounds.

Why does he just want boxers with a poor defense, the same kind Wilder faced for years? As he advances, sooner or later he'll need to face someone with defensive skills.

 

TBH it's strange how Sanchez can fight in a title eliminator after being knocked out by Kabayel and scoring just one win after that - over a Mexican punching bag with 18-23 record.

 

TBF if he's following the Wilder model, the main lesson is to try and make sure you avoid a backfire on a cherrypick of someone with the potential to show you levels.

If Wilder had ducked Fury like he ducked anyone else who'd ever shown contender potential, his run would've lasted longer - and more people would still believe the hype.

 

In other words, they want to wait until Usyk retires and then try to pick off whoever’s left between AJ and Fury for one of the vacant belts. Or maybe wait and see if Dubois gets one of them back after Usyk retires and that’d also be a big UK fight.

 

Hes 20. How many fighters at 20 are fighting their eras version of Frank Sanchez with no hardware on the line?

 

Wilders opponent prior to fighting Stiverne for the title was Jason Gaverne ffs, so let's just let that sink in before trashing a 20 year old prospects next fight.

 

He needs rounds with more durable boxers.

I remember when David Price was getting early KOs, and I thought "he's only had 2 rounds this entire year - he needs to face someone who can last longer, or to fight more often."

Round one KOs are nice to see, but up-and-coming boxers need rounds or they do not improve.

Someone like Chisora would be perfect, but it seems they will each face different opponents in December.

 

Sanchez offers no value, but it would've been the next logical step, he would have given Itauma the rounds he's wanted

 

odd choice, I figure a guy like Sanchez is a ranked, eliminator type of opponent who is not as risky as other guys floating around the top 10. Sanchez is older, inactive and coming off a stoppage loss and even at his best was never a knockout puncher

This seems like a pretty good showcase opportunity. Plus if he cannot beat a guy like Sanchez then he really cannot beat a guy like Parker or Dubois let along Usyk

I will withhold reacting too harshly until we see who he actually faces
