That has to travel up so I assume it's usually the overhand right

Uppercuts seem more painful than they are, as long as you see the punch coming that is. Why uppercuts are so deadly is because they come from a low angle, and thus more often land without the recipient seeing the punch coming. The magic of a blind spot.

At least that is from personal experience. The only times my head has been rung like bell in the gym were with right hands; looping, straight, over-head.

No, it's the cross. A straight one. For most boxers.
Overhands lose momentum. Mass times acceleration.

Some techniques / body types could make a very charged, full torque hook or upper exert the same force, give or take.

In terms of what hurts the most, a precise hook to the liver.

The hook is the hardest punch that can be thrown given you can throw your entire body weight into it. Even an untrained fighter can throw what I like to call a "club punch"........think Wilder vs Stiverne 2 in which the punch travels a great distance building up speed and force to do ultimate damage.

Obviously depending on your training and what you work on, you can make certain punches in your arsenal be extremely dangers, but as a common punch thrown by all fighters, I'd have to say that the hook (and/or an overhand) are the hardest punches thrown by a fighter.

Cool question. Depends on your mechanics.

Tyson's short uppercuts Vs Lennox's long right hands. Both very hard and both depends on the leverages of the thrower.

Uppercuts good torso and leg explosiveness.

    Straights more arm focused.

    Obviously there's crossover though.

If they land clean they certainly look the most scary - See Povetkin Whyte 1. Sometimes they look deadly but dont get the job done - See Tyson - Ribalta.

The uppercut is probably the most effective punch in a street fight.

Uppercut not the hardest punch, however most punches you receive come at you within your eyeline in front or peripherally, so those can be anticipated and perhaps expected, uppercut however often makes contact before you aware it, so no opportunity to prepare for or ride the punch.

I have never been floored by a uppercut, but any i have received has strengthened my resolve to not want to get another anytime soon.

its the straight right for orthodox, and straight left for southpaws. when done correctly your body is one long rod from the toes of your back foot, which you're pushing off with, to the knuckles of your fist. its like hitting someone with the butt end of a pool cue. the right hand canelo finished khan with is a good example of the mechanics of the punch. aj on ngannou is another good example.

That's the correct answer, right there.

Straight for "thuddingness" and hook for leverage. No science behind this, just my own thoughts. When I throw a hook, the way I feel wind around me as I pivot my body seems like there's force behind it that you can't generate with other movements. Seems like the mechanics allow for more power.

But the straight has the solidity of being backed by your body much more. Your arm is supported when your fist makes impact with the opponent, which means there's less "give" so less power is lost.

With a hook or uppercut, your arm is pushed back from the opponent when it makes impact.
