Yeah maybe. On the other hand, cooney an Tua had to fight Holmes an Lewis, 2 of the greatest heavyweight champs ever in their title shots while Baer had to fight canera who definitely was not one of the greats. Switch it around , you gotta say that both Cooney and Tua would have have a great chance of beating Carnera while Baer even at his best would have been hard pushed to upset both Holmes or Lewis

You are spot on, However Robinson and LaMotta were a step above just bullying and beating women though… Jake especially, Jake isn’t someone I’d ever keep company with… it’s funny whose labels sticks huh? Muhammad Ali was in a spaceship worshipping racist murder cult and was not a “real” Muslim but more of a member in the Manson family lol or a prison gang - to me it makes him more interesting but folks wanna call him a civil rights hero instead…

We have freedom of speech and freedom of religion and freedom of belief in this country.

I don’t care if you worship a cinnamon roll that you think you see Jesus in, you’re not harming anyone by belonging to a belief system.

That’s a far cry from beating someone (Ray, Jake, Tyson and, now, allegedly Max) or raping someone (Jake, who had I think it was a 13-year-old turning tricks for him, so also a pedo; plus Mike and, now, allegedly Max) or murdering someone (Monzon) or forcing someone to have an abortion (Max, allegedly). Those are ACTIONS. I don’t care what any of the above believed or what church they belonged to … their actions are beyond reprehensible.

Well tbf Ali was very intimate and funding said racist murder cult which was just originally a prison gang that’s not exactly attending church and donating on Sunday… Ali also beat his women and was accused of impregnating an underaged girl. LaMotta is going to hell if it exists for sure  for his sake I hope he was an atheist. I wish every boxer was just an Archie Moore…

For all of Liston’s flaws, his wife never mentioned him hitting her.

If this is true and Baer was a different person off camera Cinderella Man was still slanderous. Cinderella Man is portraying Baer in a public setting.

Its come up a lot recently but something I've noticed is that boxing fans are basically scandal proof. They pretty much ignore everything. For better and worse theres no asterisks or exiling for life.

    Nah, it wasn’t a documentary.

It was an interpretation of a character portrayed in a movie.

For whatever reason, boxing fans take any deviation from what is known or believed (by them … most movie-watchers aren’t well-versed in the particulars of fighters portrayed) as a bigger offense than ****, brutalizing women .. even murder.

Bring up Cinderella Man and they don’t talk about how the film revived for forgotten hero in Braddock, the guy who represented the poor common man during the Great Depression rising up (and paying back the welfare money he had to accept to feed his family) … they focus on Max Baer not being portrayed as they understand him to be (which the film happens to capture something closer to the character of the man we are learning he really was, but they’ll stick to the fairytale version).

Bring up the Hurricane movie and they’ll focus on the Giardello fight rather than bringing to light to many who weren’t aware just how corrupt his convictions were (so corrupt that every single conviction related to the murders was overturned multiple times — basically by ever appeals court that ever looked at how crooked that case was … whether he did it or not).

If Rocky was real, some on this forum would be saying the first fight with Creed wasn’t that close and they made it seem like Balboa almost won rather than going the distance instead of saying ‘what a great underdog story,’ lol.

Just watched Max vs. Braddock for the first time in Eons. They made Botha-Schultz look like Ali-Louis.

Anybody else think it's possible that Max threw this fight? He seemed to be screwing around an awful lot, and wasn't ripping that right hand to the head very often, even though it seemed to be there for him. Looked like a complete non-effort from him. His head didn't seem to be in it at all.

Man, I underrated that show (and Max Baer Jnr’s hilarious performances therein) when I saw re-runs as a kid. Same with Greenacres. Took me a bit of time to come to that one also. Both great shows.

Nah, I reckon Max would’ve seen too many dark clouds, perhaps even the whole of Harlem.
