Buster Douglas was the Cinderfella Man.

Too bad the glass slipper no longer fit his fat swollen feet when he faced Evander.

He swapped himself out for the carriage that turned back into a pumpkin.

Baer's chin is crazy strong. Ol Joe would have been chipping away all night until he collapsed from exhaustion.

Ring en Espanol used to say that Max was so confident on a knockout punch that by he was clowning like, well..a clown..and making the crowd laugh and being a comedian, and then by the time he realized was time to go for broke it was the tenth or eleventh and he never landed the punch that won him the fight, therefore Braddock won.-Their narrative, not mine, Ive never sen the fight.

Hollywood are the ones that have the bad habit of slandering anyone and everyone so biopics can have villians. The director wasn't giving his opinion on Max Baer as a person or historical figure. He didn't have some historical agenda or narrative he was trying to push. He was using Max as a plot device.

Max Baer would have made Foreman look ordinary. Foreman never got pounded to the body like Baer would pound him.

Louis avoided Baer for years. He drew the colour line.

But only boxing fans, near as I can tell, take it so personally.

Literally EVERY Hollywood ‘based on a true story’ film plays fast and loose with the facts. They take a real situation and adapt it for dramatic purposes. Drama needs characters, heroes and villains.

And it’s not even Hollywood. If you want to learn English history, read a textbook. If you want to be entertained, watch an adaption of a Shakespeare play on Richard III and various other true historic figures. You don’t see British people trashing the Bard for not making his plays and characters historically accurate (yes, historians have voiced criticism, but you don’t see theater-goers screaming at the unfairness of his portrayal of Henry V, lol).

If Shakespeare was around to write a play on Max Baer, some people on this forum would burn the Globe to the ground, haha.

Baer could hit the opponent, with force, if he achieved that why it matters if he did the punch form this or the other way ? He already achieved the ultimate goal !! Who cares how he did it.

Look at Braddock's record the previous 12 to 15 fights, even though he put together a couple of decent wins Max had every reason to believe he had a quick nights work ahead of him in my opinion.

That’s a mark of lack of greatness that sums up a fighter’s entire legacy — didn’t care enough to do his job by getting ready for a defense of the most prized title in all of sport at the time. Figured he had it easy so he didn’t prepare.

Great ones strive to do their best regardless. Tiger Woods won The Masters by a record margin … then fired his swing coach right after and completely retooled his swing because he wanted to be greater still. He didn’t take months off without ever setting foot on a course and thus lose badly because he thought he’d beat everyone easily.

Baer for his day was a stud and got by because of it. He didn’t work hard to develop his game. He was undisciplined which was the opinion of his own son yes Jethro is quoted as saying that and that in his words he was a big baby under neath not a tough guy. Summary he had a big punch good size and athletic ability for his era but only club fighter level skills and when things were going bad not the bravest guy to come down the pike.

The tragic incident of the death of Frankie Campbell, profoundly affected Baer. In a display of remorse and compassion, Max gave purses from succeeding bouts to Campbell's family. He financially helped Campbell's family through college, he rendered a long term commitment to support Campbell's family, and took no money from the gates. Baer was well known for his generosity, giving away to the homeless, and those in need. He also, set aside a trust of $10,000 for Campbell's widow and son. How could you not like a guy like that!
