With broadcasting making a difference in my view, at least being able to make an average fight better, and a great fight brilliant, which team you select from if you could choose a broadcast team for the same event. TEAM A Studio Hosts Alan Massengale Roy Jones Jr Christina Poncher Blow by Blow Jim Lampley Color Rich Marotta Keys to Victory Al Bernstein Special Comments Larry Merchant Scorecards Steve Farhood Interview Dave Bontempo Announcer Jimmy Lennon Jr or TEAM B Studio Hosts Barry Tomkpins Andre Ward Kate Abdo Blow by Blow Joe Tessitore Color Colonel Bob Sheridan Keys to Victory Tony Paige Special Comments Gil Clancy Scorecards Harold Ledderman Interview Jim Gray Announcer Michael Buffer Note Colonel although typically BxB or solo, has worked as color next to Barry Tompkins And a poll for the below favorite announcer.... Michael Buffer or Jimmy Lennon Jr
Couldn't care less about commentary they talk pish most of the time I think Pauli malignaggi gave some quality technical commentary which is rare and refreshing, would have liked to hear his opinion mid way through that Canelo Crawford fight about how much of an ugly bum Canelo is.
I don't care enough about commentary to rate any of them over the other. I just know who I DON'T want to hear during the fight.
I like commentary that explains what is going on in a fight and digs into that slighter deeper level of how the fight is progressing and what fighter A vs fighter B are doing and what they need to do. Bonus points if they explain it in a way that the layman understands. Because a lot of the time there are things going on in a fight, tactics, strategies, undercurrents that aren't immediately obvious to the casual viewer, like myself, so I like if the commentary can explain it. I don't like commentators that go on a long walk about the colour of a fighter's beard, or how many burritos they normally eat for dinner, or bring up some ancient fighter etc. I like my commentary to commentate on the actual fight
One of the very best, to do it solo, or with 1, 2, or 3 others by his side, he could adapt. Such a big personality and boisterous voice.
Whoever those knuckleheads that was glorifying Madrimov feints for a full 12 rounds and arguing with Shawn Porter when he was trying to educate them on what Crawford was doing to Madrimov in the later rounds. Those dudes don't seem to understand the sport well enough to tell anyone about it let alone commentate a bout.
Spare me any broadcasting school clowns like Kellerman, Kreigel, and the WWE style Tessitore and whoever that Mauro guy is. Roy is pretty good, Lennox knows what's going on but can't speak fast enough, Ward is smug and sometimes annoying but not bad, Paulie is great unless he gets up on a soapbox about something. Play by play must be Lampley.
