Does anyone subscribe or get the print edition? How is it? I follow the YouTube channel and at first it was pretty good. I like the interviews and it has been interesting to see former HBO guys like Max and Jim back in the spotlight. However, more recently the channel seems more like a company newsletter and less of journalism and reporting. Is the writing quality or is it the same as the YT channel? Have they brought back any of the previously good boxing writers?
I do not, but they used to have bunch of quality guys provide analysis. The late great Alan Massengale, who called many international feeds, namely via Top Rank or Golden Boy promoted events and Doug Fisher.
Its good to see them get some much needed funding and bounce back. But like all orgs that are supposedly "independent" but have a wealthy benefactor, views and positions that match Turki's and are to the benefit of him will naturally find their way through and be more prominent. Over time we will see it become more and more a mouth piece for Turki and Saudi.
However good the fights that have taken place under Turki have been, the acquisition of the magazine is a clear grab, to control the narrative in the industry. Reading Donald McRae's 'The Last Bell' recently has only confirmed this suspicion. He talks of Turki asking a group of critical journalists if they can 'work together' moving forward. 'Working together' clearly meaning... "Please don't keep talking about Saudi's human rights record." And it's easily forgotten of the journalist being denied entry during a recent big fight, because of his publications
Yes, The Ring Magazine's digital version was made free for a period after April 2025, and you can access the digital content for free on Ring Magazine's website.
Turki bought Ring magazine to gain control of what is widely considered the lineal title. Ring is seen as the "neutral arbitrator" of boxing disputes and by buying them Turki has become that arbitrator.
Billionaire buys legacy publication. The Washington Post of boxing. It's a smart move for Turkey. Is it good for boxing? Not really.
The boxing content is okay but I'm not really interested in the camel racing coverage that's now included.
Didn't really matter then and doesn't really matter now. If we're being honest, the only belt that really matters is the WBC belt. If I was a boxer I'd only care about the ibf & WBC belts.
