Would Donovan "Razor" Ruddock at his peak, when he took Tyson the distance and beat Dokes to a pulp, have the grit, skills and all things necessary to become a champion of today's era (the past 15 years)?
Would he be able to get past the journeymen? (Christian Hammer, Gyongyosi, Wach, Balogun)
If so, would he be able to get past the fringe contenders? (Chisora, Joyce, Wallin, Leapai, Brock, Austin)
And if he could beat the journeymen and contenders, could he take on the lower former champions? (Rahman, Peter, Povetkin, Browne, Pulev, Chagaev, Stiverne, Martin, Zhang if you count the interim title, Whyte)
Once he gets past the journeymen, contenders and former champs how about the higher former champions? (Wilder, Joshua, Ruiz, Dubois)
And the prospects? (Itauma, Torrez, Huni, Wardley, Hunter Jr, Kabayel)
If you think he goes through 9/10 of these guys, or 27-1, can he take on Tyson Fury in a final elimination bout for the heavyweight championship of the world?
And if Ruddock improves his record to 28-1, is the world championship finally his as he fights Oleksandr Usyk?

He could, but he always had stamina issues (claiming asthma) and his chin, with or without asthma, was not the best. At his finest he was a marvelous boxer-puncher, but he fell in love with his power and abandoned his commitment to working off the jab.

He would have no chance of beating Uysk at all, imo. None. He would lose 100 times out of a 100 to a more versatile, intelligent and hard-working fighter, and it doesn't make things any better for him that his big punch was a left shovel hook, and not a good southpaw neutralizing right.

If he really worked on his shortcomings, he would have good, competitive fights against the Furys, Dubois, Joshuas, etc.

That's my story, and I'm sticking to it.

At his best I would give the edge to Razor against anybody but Usyk. He had the power and heart to knock the entire division Except Usyk out cold.

I don't see how anyone can say he'd be able to become a single belt champion, but not a unified champion. All he'd have to do would be to put a 38 year old Usyk into orbit while losing every second of the fight before that.

What Ruddock wouldn't be able to do in any era dating back to Ali would be to win the title and have a long, dominant reign. He was Formanesque in that sense.

So all he would have to do is KO Usyk? Sounds easy enough....

He's a 38 year old blown up cruiserweight who doesn't like it to the body.

I would pick Andy Ruiz over him if that tells you what I think.

I don't see how he is better than a good version of Fury or AJ. He might put a hole through Wilder though, if Wilder didn't switch him off first.

He might have beaten Dubois if he catches him clean early. AJ, Fury, and Usyk are all pretty clearly beyond him. Prime Wilder would be a fun fight but Wilder carries his power late and is a lot tougher than given credit for, so I don't like Ruddock's odds of beating Wilder especially if it goes late. Stiverne and Martin he would beat if he signed with the right promoters. I wouldn't count him out against a young Joseph Parker either. He would do about as he well as he did in his own career, he'd win some, and he'd lose some. If he's managed well then he could probably make his way to a title even though he wouldn't keep it all too long.

I see him reaching Dubois level and no more than that, which means he would win the belt, but he still wouldn't unify all the belts...

I doubt it. He had the tendency to fall short when facing the best of the division. Also his style relied heavily on his power and physical tools which might not bode well in an era where he’d be somewhat on the smaller end of the spectrum
