I like how people read the question and did the exact opposite of the exercise.

Evander Holyfield vs Riddick Bowe 1 and FOTC are the two top shelf ones IMO…

    For me,
    Ali vs Liston 1.
You can call him as old as you want. 8 of his last 7 fights didn't go past the 3rd round and all of his biggest wins of his career was there.
it doesn't matter how old he was because he had just won the championship and he had just beaten the top ranked contenders. Also he couldnt knock out ali when he was blinded.

True enough actually. Still among the most valuable wins I’d say for my 0.2$ that, Bowe vs Holyfield and Schemling vs Louis… though I could be convinced Louis was green at the time. By the criteria of the thread it’s probably Bowe vs Holy.

    Holmes beating Norton
    Weaver beating Tate
Wladimir Klitschko defeating Chris Byrd both times

My additions besides what has already been said.

I believe the importance of that stretch of inactivity is over stated. He came back to stop the incredibly sturdy Bonavena for the only time in Oscar's career and a Quarry only a few months removed from giving Mac Foster his first L before facing off with Frazier.

    Willard was also insanely complacent.

Prior to the bell he looks like he’s only about to embark on a quiet stroll through the park.

It appeared that he somehow didn’t rate Dempsey at all. Oops!

Just on Louis and the first Schmeling fight, I wonder who might’ve taken sufficient advantage of Joe’s “flaw” if Max himself hadn’t pulled it off?

Probably nobody. Later on a guy like Walcott would have given him trouble, which he did at any rate.

But Louis wasn't in top shape for Schmeling. That on top of getting hit with dozens of flush right hands did him in.
