Leonard is more skilled than Robinson, can match his speed, has better footwork, better defense. Robinson has a superior offensive arsenal and power but he would get outboxed. Leonard beats Crawford and Mayweather in close fights. He would beat Hearns more often than not. He would be too much for prime Pacquiao and Armstrong, KOs Felix Trinidad, beats up De La Hoya and Shane Mosley. Napoles and Griffith get outclassed.

And yes, i believe he beats Duran more often than not.

Not sure whether SRL beats SRR but I'm sure it would have been a close one. I fully agree with the rest of your assessments.

All at their best I favour Robinson and Duran over him but only those two

There is a very strong argument that Ray Leonard was the best P4P fighter of the second half of the 20th Century. I don't know if he beats Robinson. That's an exceptionally tall order as Robinson was even tougher ( never stopped in 25 years , Maxim heat exhaustion aside) and a bigger two handed puncher .. Crawford, to me , now that I understand the complexity off his alternating style shifts would be a hell of a challenge ... its all a fun debate and grounded on reality, that's for sure ..

Agree that Robinson ranks above Leonard at 147, but that doesn’t mean No 2 could never beat No 1.

(A lot of people have Willie Pep at No 1 at feather and Sandy Saddler No 2, but Sandy beat him 3 out of 4 with all wins by stoppage, for instance.)

Would Leonard beat Robinson in a mythical one-off? I’m not sure and I’d pick Robinson. But COULD Leonard beat Robinson best vs best? Absolutely.

Eh??? Robinson's footwork is at least as good as Leonard's and he is hands down without exception or rival the most fluid combination puncher I have ever seen. Leonard may beat him, but he damn sure wouldn't do it easily. I'd unhesitatingly bet my life on that much.

Ray Leonard was best P4P I ever saw till Roy Jones. Don’t know who to pick between them. Admit there’s been greats since then but as far as I know those are top 2 so Yes Ray L is best welter ever if I had to choose. I never saw Robinson fight as a welter. As middles younger Robinson that beat LaMotta I still go with Ray L by a whisker.

I think Leonard would have a better chance than anyone else in history at the weight. It's all wild guesswork, but i think he might take 1 fight in a trilogy.

In a trilogy, I can definitely see Leonard winning one. Likely a decision win.

If you really want to start something, make a thread with Leonard vs Napoles.

The best version of Duran always beats the best version of Leonard because he's simply the superior boxer and the perfect counter to the Sugar.

He beats every american boxing puncher 100 times out of 100 times ever except Ray Robinson and Thomas Hearns simply because the athletic and physical advantages are way too vast.[/COLOR]
