According to a Ring Magazine writer i follow on X the plan is for Opetaia to face Badou Jack in Riyadh in January if he is successful against Cinkara in December if he comes through unscathed .
Not suggesting he didn't say that but how much sense does it make? Yes, Cinkara is Opetaia's mandatory. So he has to get that out of the way first. But to back up in January after fighting in December? Opetaia would want to be knocking Cinkara out early and with almost zero fuss for that to make any sense.
Reading the Tim Tszyu interview has just made his ex Team look even more incompetent if that is somehow possible. Wow destroyed a career, just trying to milk the cash cow.
Tim's team took him to a world championship so they must have done something right. I do think they stuffed up the matchmaking once they got him there not to mention choice of sparring partners for some of his big fights. Prior to the Bakhram fight, his team was boasting about his sparring with some teenage Mexican kid. Bakhram meanwhile had been preparing by sparring world class Eastern Euros based in America. For the Beanstalk rematch, he had an adequate American clubfighter type & Kiwi amateur as his main sparring partners. No wonder he got sat on his backside first round. Did it occur to his team to line up Conor Wallace for sparring? Better to get sat on your backside first week of training camp than in the first round of a championship fight. Let's see what the new team can line up for him but the horse may have bolted.
I coached a premiership team years ago and I reckon my mother could have got them there. If the talent is sufficient not much assistance is required.
Good to see Leutele back in action out here. He should be a mandatory opponent for any Australian heavyweight aspiring to fight on the world stage. Thought he might be better matched with Teremoana coming off a stretch of inactivity. Still a good fight for Justis who I expect will fight him differently to last time. Given Justis was hurt a couple of times the last time they fought, this isn't a gimme for him.
