Fought a great fight and used all his advantages. Everything fell into place. He got all of Zaire shouting to Kill Foreman. He talked to George and phsyched him out. Foreman wasted punches he fell into traps. With all that Ali was retreating covering clinching working overtime on defense to avoid the awesome power of the force of nature. Foreman was only 24 he had cagey trainers that could have made adjustments. Next venue may not have had a whole African Country wanting him dead. Ali may have made a mistake or 2 next time that let in a sledgehammer. In any case seems like Ali wasn’t as sure as you he avoided the rematch even though would have been huge payday maybe his biggest.

Avoided the rematch? Didn’t GF just take a bunch of time off and had to beat Jimmy Young for his “shot” in his “comeback” at the time he’d only really beaten Lyle and didn’t look great doing it, I highly doubt Ali having best GF so easily would be afraid of a rematch against a one dimensional fighter… Bonavena was a harder bout did he duck that rematch too?

Are people putting an asterisk beside Ali-Foreman?

Bonavena wouldn't have drawn much Foreman was the champion and a big favorite that just lost. Would have been a mega fight. George was trying to get a rematch. I’ve heard Ali didn’t want it. Why didn’t it happen 3 fights with Frazier and Norton?

Frazier did not give Ali an immediate rematch, Tunney didn’t give Dempsey an immediate rematch GF did not give JF an immediate rematch… personally with GF’s time off and regrouping period he wasn’t in a position to get a return bout with Ali, Ali didn’t “duck” a guy he beat so easily Ali made him work the ladder like he should, it’s good business and he didn’t even face steep competition till Jimmy Young which was the last (basically only) obstacle to Ali but GF dropped the ball. Ali before he got “Super fight 2” faced… Ellis, Mathis, Mac Foster, Blin, Chuvalo, Quarry, Alvin, Patterson, B Foster, Bugner, Norton x 2 and Lubbers might be he felt GF had to actually face a contender or two before getting a title shot after a long time off?

No asterisk Ali won a great victory. But there was never a rematch. Well documented that George was very upset he lost his title and wanted a rematch. George said Ali didn’t want it. Would have been a mega bout the destroyer champ big favorite was just upset by the old champ and wants chance to regain his title. Ali fought Norton and Frazier 3 each so why wasn’t there at least a rematch for Foreman would have made mega bucks and Ali was champ now would have made a fortune so why didn’t it happen. Foreman was beating the best in the division easily he thought Ali stole the title. He wanted a rematch and was sure he could win.
