Like seriously, I was thinking about it and every one of them seems like a very good match up… Hagler beats him most likely, Hagler had the most trouble with physical opponents however and the Ol Utah Billy Goat would be the best 160lber he faced… Leonard didn’t do really anything better then Robinson… Duran was wee sized, Hearns a bit brittle and got mauled by a much worse Barkley in a way I don’t think is out of the question for Gene to apply.

He gets clowned by all of them, and clowned badly. He looks like a prelim guy from a regional circuit. His was a fairly skill bereft oaf, certainly not in the league of any of those four, even as a middleweight compared to Leonard or Duran.

    0-4.

Oh Seamus how wrong you are and you know it… Fullmer was monstrous, you’re just Mormonphobic.

Maybe on the right night (except for Hagler). If he tried to bully Hagler around, with no regard..

It wasn’t the worst outcome for a far inferior fighter in Vito…Fullmer had that kind of aggressive swagger to turn it into a dog match with Hagler.

Vito clearly lost that fight and had no son named Michael to avenge him. Lol

Those 4 are interesting matches. I still think he loses to Hagler.

A lot closer than people say… Fullmer could do better, it would be a PPV offer I could not refuse.

LOL a very clever answer to a clever quote lol

But a long time ago when writing about Antuofermo for another website, I did say this: I saw the fight on classic and it was a bad decision but if anyone deserved a bad decision to go his or her way, it was Antuofermo that night, the way he digged in for 15 rounds!!

That wouldn't work for him against Hagler. Hamsho and Roldan had that swagger too (against the smaller middleweight).

Gene's greatest attribute was Utah judging.

Good Lord, people. Take off the nostalgia glasses. Gene Fullmer wasn't very good. Strong, durable, no dynamics, no speed, no power.... He was just there. To put it more modern terms, a very poor man's Steve Collins.

:sisi1 You know better than this, stop it - Gene was a genuinely very admirable boxer who beat plenty of legit fighters. His way was ugly but extremely effective… quick feet, great defence.

I like Fullmer but that doesn't change the fact he would lose to all 4

I favor Hagler. He probably loses to all 4 though, with his best chance against Duran and Hearns in that order.
