Yes mate you're correct i think that ko was a combination of fatigue and the temple shot but mundine did defo have a shakey chin , Crazy Kim springs to mind .

Yep it was a temple shot and fatigue was a big factor due to inexperience. If Choc had maybe had a couple more 12 rounders and waited until his 15th fight or so I reckon he would’ve beaten Ottke.

26 year old, 35-0 Kessler WBA champion, and 6 month later knocked out Beyer to be unified, was still an up and comer? Ye ok lol.

Mundine definitely could of and probably should of beaten Kessler, I think his cautiousness was due to him getting badly KOd by Ottke, he was pretty chinny and after that his output and aggressiveness pulled back.

He'd won the vacant WBA title 7 months prior to fighting Mundine and of his 35 fights about 25 of those were at middle or junior middle it was hardly a " prime" kessler that beat Mundine .

To be fair Mundine turned pro late and he didn't peak until around 2006 himself when he beat Green and blasted Soliman in 2007. Kessler was a heavy favorite to knock Mundine out.

The thread is hardly ridiculous Mundine was rated number 3 by Ring Magazine in his prime. He fought in a tougher super middleweight division than Canelo ever did.

Has Mundine ever expressed if he would have started his pro boxing career earlier if he could do it over? I understand he turned over major financial revenue by doing it the way he did. Business wise it was perfect but obviously he could have done a lot more in boxing, achievement wise, legacy wise if done differently.

I was a mad Kessler fan at the time, I had all his fights sent from overseas. I had watched virtually all, if not all of his fights up to that point. When word first got around that Mundine might fight him, I feared for Mundine:risas3:. I heard the confidence in Barry Michael's voice talking about the match up. I sent a heap of Kessler fights to a good friend of Barry's and the next time I heard Michael speak about the fight publicly, he had changed his tune:risas3:. However it was after the Kessler fight that I realised how close Mundine actually really was to being top dog and it didn't look very far at all!

Not sure but he wouldn't of had the backing or hype if he never played in the NRL. I do think he could've been Australia's greatest if he never played League and had an amateur career he was naturally gifted with speed and athleticism. So it is a catch 22 I guess. I know it is a highlight reel KO but the fact that he gave a guy like Ottke hell in his 11th fight after only being a pro for less than 2 years is crazy.

Yep I remember the media were certain that Kessler and Antwun Echols were going to knock Mundine TF out.

Agreed, Ottke cops a lot of **** but his Olympic and pro credentials tell you how effective he was.
