Who would you pick? If you could make a hypothetical top 5 most skilled fighters on film that went pro before 1910, what would your list look like? Mine would probably be:

    Gans
    Langford
    Ritchie
    Britt
    Jack Johnson

Joe Gans looks thoroughly modern. So far before his time.

I’d go Johnson, Gans and Langford.

Pretty much that order but close enough to be moved around.

    Where’s Tiny Tammy though?

He looked pretty good on film, especially when dusting off Oz’s own Bill Sqiires in just 1 round.

Pleasantly plump ref Jim Jeffries didn’t look too pleased when Tommy won that one so emphatically.

For me, it's Jim Driscoll when it comes to film. Looks like a proper stylist.

it is a good question and I'd have to think about it, with respect to whom I or we have actually seen...

    Johnson
    Langford
    Gans

there's good Footage of Dixon. I can't think all whom we have seen atm, but yeah, you could tell Gans was good and not so crude, which of course many were...

BUT, less so than we first might think because the Footage not the Fighter's was poor, however they certainly weren't as Athletic & Stylish as they came to be by the mid/late 20s.

    Gans I guess.

I don't follow LW and I don't know most of the fighters. Normally the smaller guys are better P4P. But in that particular era the sport was really open and a fighter really had to be Walcott small to not be viable at MW. Gans was clearly great I'm more skeptical about the quality of guys he was beating. What sort of guys in 1900 couldn't compete at MW or WW?

Bob Moha at 5'5 was able to compete at MW and LHW and win a belt.

Willie Ritchie looks the most modern to me.
