With the recent passing of Ricky Hatton I thought we'd remember some of his most notable performances. For me in no order. Kostya Tszyu Jose Luis Castillo Paulie Malignaggi Carlos Maussa Ray Oliveira
I liked his performance over Ben Tackie, I'd rank that over Oliveira. He showed in that fight he was versatile.
Hatton was a really good fighter. And I've been saying this for years. He had some excellent wins. And he had the balls to head to the States - the home of boxing at the time - to take on, amomg others, the top two fighters of his generation at their absolute peaks - unlike his British stablemate Calzaghe.
Not to be disrespectful to Ricky but that Tszyu fight was a load of BS, Hatton did everything he could get away with to the point of parody. I had Tszyu up when he quit if you count the KD he got punching RH in the body (they called it low…) that was a great win but not a good performance.
I think his talent is underrated. When he was young the accolades being dropped about him were otherworldly. The product we saw towards the end was greatly compromised by his out of the ring lifestyle.
He looked breathtakingly good against Pep and Pendleton in his very early twenties. Then he started training like a bodybuilder under Kerry Kayes, and taking longer between fights due to his high ticket sales (meaning ballooning up on booze and junk food). Sad.
