That doesn’t look like jealousy to me and Lewis certainly has nothing to be jealous about. It looks like one legend giving advice to another.
Usyk said prior to Dubois 2 that he had two more fights left, so given he is a reliable character I assume he has one more fight. Probably vs the Parker-Wardley winner at age 39, older than Ring/unified champ Wlad was when he beat Jennings.
He does seem to be a cool dude, amplified by the language barrier he comes across as pretty funny. Emily Blunt is smokin’ hot.
What the hell kind of lazy clickbait is this? Postulating that Usyk might retire (and making people who just see your title in passing mistakenly think it's based on something he said) just because of some crap Lewis was talking?
I believe he already walked that back and says that he doesn't know how many. He has been studying grappling since before boxing, and I really think he want's to have a low level MMA fight or two to show that off, so there is a chance the next could be the last....but I don't think even he is sure about anything at this juncture.
Lewis might be saying that because it’s obviously making him real uncomfy watching Usyk dominate in the fashion he has at HW while winning over English fans more than he did And the difference is… if Usyk retires now, he can GENUINELY say he has nothing more to prove and has beaten everyone in his way. While Lennox “THE LION” weaseled out of a Vitali Rematch. Then blamed it on his mom “Wanting him to stop boxing”
Then please tell me, why do you think he doesn't get retired and did a face off with Jake Paul in the ring after Dubois fight?
Yeah exactly, I think that was an off the cuff comment that got repeated so much that he had to walk it back. Personally I think that Usyk loves fighting, and is trying to work out if he still has it, the drive and motivation for the hard camps and the fights, and whether his body will stick with him. Also he is trying to see how much fulfillment he will get in retirement by going on what seems to be a mini-retirement tour, public appearances, singing at concerts, charity soccer matches, movies etc. My guess is that he lives the sport too much to give it up, and will start getting itchy for another fight once he sees the heavyweights fighting later this year, Parker, Wardley, Dubois, Itauma, Kabayel, he will start thinking "i can beat those guys"
To be honest who is left for Usyk to fight. AJ twice, Fury, DD Twice, Wilder is done. Zhang's losses have reduced his credibility as a top contender. Hgrovich - same. So that leaves Parker, if he gets past Wadley, and Kabayel - 1 more and call it a career would make sense who really is going to be a threat or bring the $$ to the table. Bakole?? No chance, Torrezz jnr??? No chance
He is quite likely to retire soon. He's 39 in January. He could just carry on though, until he's 45 or 48, and lose a bunch of fights.
He wants to do something different after clocking boxing amateur and pro and winning everything there is to win? To try a crossover fight in MMA? It will help grow his brand and make it easier for him to transition to something else? He'll earn a king's ransom for doing it without having to lock himself away in camp from his family for three months? Bow out of the sport whilst at the top and retiring an undefeated legend? All of the above? I don't know his exact motivation for wanting to do that but father time is undefeated and there's a reason why there has only ever been 4 older HW champions than him, 0 undisputed HW champs older than him, and 1 unified HW champion older than him and a week after his 39th birthday (in 4 months) he moves up a notch on that list and becomes the 4th oldest HW champion of all time and #3 (Wlad) was 39 years and 32 days old when he won his last ever fight #1 Foreman literally retired from the sport for a decade and let's not forget he won the world title at 45 y/o with a come from behind KO against a much smaller Moorer who was soundly outboxing him, clearly should've lost it in his 1st defence vs Schulz, and was coming off a loss to Morrison in his previous fight to facing Moorer #2 Vitali retired from the sport for 4 years and he was facing guys like Solis, Adamek, Briggs, Chisora and Charr when he was 39 and older all of whom he was either much or bigger than or roughly the same size as (weight) sans the 10lbs heavier Briggs #3 Wlad was facing guys he was much or bigger than or roughly his size in his late 30s Foreman, Vitali and Wlad were natural HW 245-250lb + giants at that time with KO 89%, KO 91%, KO 82% facing opponents they were much bigger or bigger than or roughly their size and they were taking on soft touches in between facing the top guys, not fighting the #1 and #2 ranked guys like Usyk has been doing sans Dubois 1 who are way bigger than him
Well, he is continuing fighting, because he wants more money. It doesn't matter if his opponents are bigger in size or not. The man is paid $50M per fight, and he will continue fighting as long as he can. Look at old and retired boxers, they want to come back to boxing because they need money. Money is the most important thing. Krasyyuk, Lewis and others advise Usyk to retire because they're just jealous he's paid $50M per fight. With the money he’ll earn from each fight, he could buy a hundred apartments in the most luxurious neighborhoods. It would be madness to turn down such an opportunity. And clearly, Usyk has no intention of missing this chance. Unlike those romantic boxing fans who wants him to "hang the gloves", Usyk is a very smart man.
