He went into Wlad’s backyard, beat the dominant champ on his own turf, and schooled him in and out of the ring when everyone was predicting he’d get sparked the first time Klitschko landed. Then yeah, he went off the rails — three years on the ****, blew up to nearly 30 stone — and still came back to take Wilder to school. That first fight alone, rising like the Undertaker in the last round, was the stuff of legend. People say “Wilder who?” now because Fury knocked the soul out of him across that trilogy. And what “real fights” has he actually avoided? Only Joshua — and that was signed before Deontay dragged him into court to force the third fight. Sure, his act hasn’t aged well, but that’s more about who he is outside the ring. Inside it, he’s the best Brit by far since Lewis. If he hadn’t disappeared during his peak, he’d have dominated and probably retired with 20+ defences

Fury was commodity they knew they could Captalise on - Cha ching. a GIANT S-HW, a Traveller, a Singer, a bit of a Character a Sideshow 'they' Milked... Happily Fury benefitted from these Parasitic Devils, but the truth IS, Corruption & Money gets the job done. Great Guy, 3rd tier fighter, 2cd at best!
Fought 3 title eliminators & lost his IBF position after the Haye rigmarole all while being promoted by the very low key smokey bacon Hennessy. Its unbelievable some of the revisionist history in recent years
I always felt Fury messed up by not getting a 'filler' fight or Wilder 3 made earlier, between Covid lockdowns. There was talk of him fighting Agit Kabayel at one point, late 2020. Wilder was being a deranged sore loser but maybe 'step aside' could have still be arranged. I think if Fury had kept just that little bit more busy after February 2020, fitting in another fight or two, things might have been better. But I think he looked at the sums, and Kabayel in front of a restricted audience, wasn't paying what he wanted. And then the rot set in again. I thought he looked to have declined quite significantly again between those 2nd and 3rd Wilder fights.
COVID really stalled a lot of fighters — most were lucky to get one fight a year, maybe two in eighteen months. Arum was never going to put Fury out for what he wanted paying either. It would’ve relied totally on PPV sales, and unless the fighters took percentages instead of guarantees, it was too risky — especially when Arum was already moaning about having to pay Crawford what he was contracted. I think once Fury won the title back, that was his summit. After that, he became more of a sideshow — both in and out of the ring. As his popularity grew, he leaned too heavily into his image and the distractions came with it. Truthfully, he’d have been better suited to the old-school schedule where fighters boxed often to stay sharp — similar to what Jackie Kallen did with James Toney at his peak, keeping him busy to maintain that edge. The Netflix doc made it clear he’s someone who needs to be constantly occupied — despite all the wealth and family around him, he seemed restless and hard to be around outside camp. That’s why I think he’s at his best when active. Even earlier in his career, that long layoff after the Haye pull-out stalled his progress — he was still improving then and might’ve been good enough to beat Wladimir even at that point. I think the fight of his I enjoyed the most was actually the Cunningham fight. It was exciting, he did it on away turf, and even though the knockout at the end was a bit suspect — he almost held Cunningham’s head in place with one hand — he showed he had the goods to come back and get it done. I honestly think he would’ve ended Haye, and deep down, David knew it too. Haye–Fury on Ringside is another episode up there with Groves–DeGale and Khan–Brook.
Really enjoyed all 3 Wilder fights was about time that idiot was beaten. Brilliant Fury getting up from that, pure desire, fair play ref we need more of that. Sport is being robbed of moments like that a lot these days. Was amazing seeing the smirk wiped off the clown’s face when he got up. Fuming I was robbed on my Fury points bet in that one. Second fight when everyone was like, why so heavy bad this, can’t go toe to toe with him. Turned out to be the best thing going. Third fight was just mad. I’ve read that much stuff on the Usyk fights that I haven’t got a clue what the consensus is on the first Usyk fight, particularly the first one but I think if he didn’t get cocky he’d have won that. That nose breaker changed the fight. Usyk was just ‘downloading data’ still though eh. Chisora 3 absolute joke fight, carried him as we all knew he would.
Klitschko wasn’t the best heavyweight in the world for all that, he wasn’t even the best heavyweight in his family.
