Dodgy stoppage at Oly final. Bowe was 19 with very little international exp and had Lewis rocked up at one point I recall. Lewis was about 25.
Do you consider the fact that Golota and Bowe destroyed each other? That Golota came out to Lewis after two fights, a serious injury, that he received compensation for a lidocaine injection, and that he was hotter and colder than anyone? Byrd draws Golota in their next fight, and Brewster crushes him. What does that mean? Bowe's most important opponent is a prime Holyfield, Lewis's most important opponent is a past-prime Holyfield. Now watch all 5 fights
Many had Golota beating Byrd and Ruiz, he was not past it. Holyfield was fighting somebody who was not only bigger but incredibly tough and near equal infighting skills. Lewis is still more versatile than Bowe, can box going backwards and has a far deeper resume. Bowe has struggled on numerous occasions and had bad discipline, I would not be so confident he goes unbeaten against Lewis's line of opposition
I'm not sure either. I just think Bowe was better in his prime than Lewis in his prime. Resume doesn't matter. Bowe fought professionally for 8 years, Lewis almost twice as long, but we're not talking about who aged better.
Resumes don't win fights but ability does Lewis at his peak of his abilities is more versatile than Bowe, has a bit more power and would finish what he started in the Olympics. Bowe is too hittable and Lewis has the better trainer, same guy who turned Klitschkos career around
I'm going off what Bowe's sparring partners have told me. Below by King Ipitan who sparred with many HWs including Bowe and Lewis. Bowe went into the first Golota fight with a concussion equilibrium infection from sparring, it was an incredibly stupid thing to do that affected his career and later life. It stemmed from Bowe in sparring boasting to his sparring partners "Your shots can't hurt me, I can take them!", this type of stuff came from Muhammed Ali whom lots of boxers idolised and copied, with the exception of Lennox. Its one of the main reasons Bowe has brain damage still to this day especially if you hear the way he speaks sadly.
And in which fight did Lewis look as good as Bowe against Holyfield in 1992? In which fight did Bowe look worse than Lewis against McCall in 1994?
Bowe may have looked as bad with Golota as Lewis did with Mercer, but he never looked as bad as Lewis did with McCall.
What? Lewis at least showed good in-fighting against Mercer, Golota made Bowe look like he never boxed a day in his life.
You're exaggerating a bit. Gołota looked no worse than the inactive, fat Mercer. Bowe took Gołota to the ground. He was stubborn. He kept fighting despite being fouled. It was a great war. Did you watch it??? And Gołota gave up and was never the same. Did Lewis really look worse getting knocked out by McCall than Bowe winning one of the biggest heavyweight fights of the 1990s???
Bowe looked better than Lewis in a close range brawl. Lewis could jab his face off like Biggs was doing for multiple rounds
