Kudos to Allen. He gave it his all and then some, It’s just not enough. He eats punches like snacks though, needs a new occupation before It’s too late.

Makh is a very nice guy and seems very dedicated to his craft. But like David Price before him, just doesn’t have the physicality to be a top dog in the pros.

I hope he gets the AJ fight he badly wants in any case.

He has two left feet and his legs don't bend but unathletic people can't do this, especially ones his size

I still think Allen won a lot more than 3, 2 and 1 rounds that the judges gave him

Not saying he won, but I thought it was close AF with the point deductions

The faithful over at BoxRec had him winning 4 rounds

    Joshua would kill him

Allen was backing him up and hurt him a few times

This would be impressive even for a smaller man. Very talented athlete. Though it doesn't seem to quite translate to boxing fluidity.

It's easy to forget he's a 250-265lb giant when you watch those but as you say he lacks fluidity and you'd never guess he was as athletic as he is from watching him fight

I will say that his ability to come back from being tired and rocked with heavy handed explosive combos was indeed impressive (which this type of training helps with). It's just his long term endurance and boxing ability he really needs to work on imo. He is ridiculously open to a left hook.

He looks like a natural southpaw that’s fighting orthodox. Maybe because he’s so big. It’s strange to watch.

Yes. Allen really needed to let his left hook upstairs go way more than he did

Brave showing from Allen, it's just a shame he couldn't move his head a little more and let his hands go, the big russian isn't going anywhere but at least comes to fight

Makhmudov has really slowed down. Occasionally he would have a snappy counter but his long right was just glacial at times. Also, he began the bout with a good stick jab to Dave's flabby gut but abandoned that after a round or two. Had he stuck to the body more, those shots upstairs would have had clear openings and he would have stopped Dave. Weird dude. I believe he really is simple mentally. That and I don't think he likes fighting. All the pleading to the ref, to his corner, the holding... The contents do not match the package.

It was typical Dave Allen, and I don't mean anything derogatory by that. He was as brave as can be and showed a great chin, but ultimately he was too plodding and his output too low. Allen should consider hanging up the gloves at this point; I know he has been sensible with his money in recent times and hopefully he is set up for life after boxing. Allen may still have love for the sport and people will always turn out to see him, but it would be a tragedy if he takes one too many fights and his health for the rest of his life suffers. I think a final fight vs Dillian Whyte in Sheffield would be a great way to go out; at this point he has a chance vs Whyte, and even if he loses I'm sure he would cherish the love shown by the crowd.

Agreed he just didn’t have the enough power to hurt him and he wasn’t strong enough to work him hard enough to tire him, and in truth Mak is a better boxer.
All that being said I think that makes it even more impressive for Allen to be taking a fight like that, his heart is bigger than his chest.
I watched him on Froch on fighting last night and he said if he had the same talent as froch he would’ve been bigger than McGregor.
Got to love Dave Allen man, he even had Mak round his house for a maccies hahaha have a look for the picture online it’s hilarious.
