Let me get this straight - Allen vs. Makhmudov went twelve complete rounds with zero knockdowns? :dunno

I'm not sure which of them I'm more disappointed in.

I agree Makh while always clearly flawed has declined significantly. several years ago his punches were snappier, quicker and more explosive. and yet Allen still clearly lost. What does that say about him? Allen should definitely retire and Makh should play his cards right and hope he can cash out against someone like AJ.

Yeah, Allen ate A LOT of big shots. One thing Makhmudov still has is heavy hands. It almost sounded like his corner wanted to stop the fight after the 11th. And he has always eaten a lot of shots. I remember the calls for him to retire before he hung them up in 2020. In a sport where even the keenest defenders have later life issues, Dave needs to really consider his future.

I think he does have the power to hurt Mak he just needed to let the hooks over the top fly with way more regularity

Mak is enormously physically strong though

Yes. It scares me to think how much punishment Allen will have taken in sparring alone. He's sparred countless rounds with so many big punchers. Great guy though

 I didn't know that. I'll check it out

Maybe I'm way off base here, but it's always seemed to me like Dave Allen was kind of afraid of success. Was he ever going to be a top tier ultra elite HW? Probably not. Still, he could have done much better than he has in career. Just every time the competition level gets stepped up a little bit he does just little enough to go home the loser. It's like he's happy being a fan favorite domestic level guy who probably gets paid more than a guy of his stature normally would. Easier to stay in that role than actually put in the work and challenge yourself and take that next step where there's a lot more pressure, responsibility, and expectation from the fans.

I saw a guy today that stood in front of a near defenseless Makhmudov and just not throw punches. He waited until extremely late in the fight to even attempt to up his work rate and give it a go. Just underwhelming all around. As Dave Allen fights usually are when he's fighting anyone with half a pulse.

Trains down the chippy when he can be bothered to train that is, terrible diet, fought and sparred everyone and countless punchers, and taken an inhuman amount of punishment but still packing iron

That's one of the downfalls of Aries, we ****ing hate being told what to do or how to think, we're naturally rebellious. So we wing it when we think we can get away with it.

 If Allen actually took boxing a lot more seriously from the get-go, trained, ate and lived right he could've achieved a lot more. But he left billions of his braincells in the gym spending so many years sparring killers when he wasn't even in shape

Macdonalds, that’s the northern slang for it.
He had loads of meals out on a table in his garden, I been watching a lot of his videos recently and he was talking about how much stick he gets for the state of his patio, and now I know why.
I want to make it clear that I don’t eat that shite.

Love the honesty from both guys, there’s still some class left in the sport.

Was rooting hard for Allen but I would've felt bad for the loser regardless who won
