These are guys that Bruno could have met in real time back then. Who'd have won? Bruno V Razor Ruddock Bruno V Tommy Morrison Bruno V Ray Mercer Bruno V Bruce Seldon Bruno V Bert Cooper All fight takes place in the UK and ten round s
He could beat Seldon, Morrison and, maybe, Cooper. Seldon's a bit of an unknown as he was prone to folding his tent and Frank could hit, Tommy might be too quick and dynamic but Frank's in the fight. Outside of Bentt, Tommy took a lot of punishment in losing (and winning fights). He could hang tough. He'd need to. Bert was a beast. Frank could jab and cross and hug and rabbit punch and maybe discourage Bert but if I was a betting man and he was at or near his best, Cooper gets Frank going and the ref steps in. Merver and Ruddock just outlast him though a performance like McCall, when he won the title, isn't out of the question if either, especially Ray, sleepwalk their way through it. All potentially winnable if the stars align. All eminently loseable. But it shows that Frank belonged in the excellent second tier of heavies in the 80s and 90s. That, to me, puts him in the top tier of today.
He beats them all except Ruddock, who'd catch him with eventually. He'd done well against Ruddock for about 8 rounds, and get stopped late.
Ruddock and Morrison KO him. He beats Seldon and Cooper, either UDs Mercer or fades late but probably wins.
I've gained more respect for Bruno as times gone by. The dedication and effort he put in to remain fit back then, when a lot of heavy s let them self's go (Tony Tubby s) . And I know it wasn't THE heavyweight title he won but big Frank deserved that at the end.
Hi Guys. Very interesting topic, thanks, I will put my hands up and say, Bruno was sort of an enigma ( in my eyes ) I have written plenty about him during my time here, and most was well, negative, as those of you who read my posts will already know, and I take no pleasure in my thoughts on a much loved, and genuinely likeable man, have spoke to him many times, and he is shy, humble, and somewhat of a manchild, but as to his rating as a world class boxer, of course he was, fighting good against Lewis, shaking Tyson to his boots, the title win over McCall, etc, but would I pick him to beat any of the above, well yes, but only Seldon, who I don't rate much, the others, Mercer in particular, would I feel hang in till Bruno starts to fade, and if pressure is put on him consistently he does eventually, he was fading against McCall, luckily it was 12 and not 15, the Spoon caught up with him, as did Bonecrusher, so I have little confidence that he will come out on top against the fighters named. stay safe guys, chat soon. Mike.
If I remember correctly, Seldon held the WBA and the IBF was in abeyance after the Foreman-Axel Schulz fight. Bowe held the lightly regarded WBO crown so Frank's title was the most prestigious and he was, arguably, the second best champion.
Yet another good one,Fergy! Ruddock - Razor comes from behind and stops Frank around the eighth. The winner's face is very swolen at the end. Morrison - The 'Duke' uses his underrated boxing ability, like he displayed against George Foreman, early on and after standing up to Frank's heaviest shots wears his opponent down and TKOs him late in the fight. Mercer - Very similar to the McCall fight. Frank builds up points with his ramrod jab and solid right and, providing he clinches when necessary he survives a few rocky moments before winning by UD. I forecast this with great hesitation though. Ray could just as easily be behind until Frank gases out and knock him out. Seldon - Bruno stops him within three rounds. Cooper - Frank knows he has to stop him as early as possible and does. 3/5 ain't bad for Frank.
Ahhh…. Bruno Tommy Mercer Bruno Cooper If Bruno doesn’t splatter Morrison on the way in I think TM overwhelms him… I think the same is true of Cooper, only Cooper was an uncommonly tough guy on a good night.
Thanks Stevie mate. Yes, it's Ruddock and Morrison that are the danger men imo too. Ruddock could definitely hurt Bruno, and Morrison had the fast power shots. Mercer would still be there at the end and Bruno would know he's been in a fight. Seldon,if Frank is lucky, may go out in the first couple of rounds with his chin. Cooper could be hurt early and also put up a hell of a fight, but I think Frank's got a good chance to stop him.
The one I’d be most excited for is a game Cooper vs Bruno… that and the Morrison bout, those two are really fun fights.
I think he could beat Seldon, Cooper and Morrison. Mercer and Ruddock are 50/50. All five of these matches would be fun to watch
Mercer at his best !! Beats Frank. Morison gets sparked. Ruddock hard to say that smash thing woundnt work Frank's jab would ! The others are KO d early in brutal fashion
