The issue with Dave is that his only defence is to absorb shots — whether it’s with his head, body, or on the gloves. As we saw last night, by the time the other guy starts to slow and leaves openings, Allen’s already spent from soaking up punishment.

It was a bit like Price in that sense — he banked on the opponent slowing down, but by the time they did, Dave had nothing left in the tank. The only way he beats these types is if they’re not big hitters, like Bracamonte, Webb, or Bosh Jnr. Beyond that, a simple one-two keeps him honest and at bay, especially with those short arms of his.

And against the big hitters, Dave’s not going to roll the dice even when he’s in position — he already knows what’s coming back, especially when you’ve got to take one or two to land your own.

A Prizefighter-style tournament or 8–10 rounders are the best bet for Dave at this stage — he’s not a 12-round fighter and never really has been.

So yeah, the engine’s irrelevant — he’s done before stamina even comes into it.

I heard one of the pundits (was it Frampton) saying Allen was "cute", he'd learned to be "cute" because he wasn't in shape much so had to be slick to go the distance. Did it mis-hear that comment?

Na I have heard both Frampton and Moore say he's cute. They're not completely off the mark I think he does have a higher ring IQ than his record and frequent headshot taking would suggest. Just doesn't always utilise it

Usual suspects talking shyte on social media and YouTube. Hearn saying if Allen can get fit he’s a problem for anyone (days after saying he was unrecognisable and in the best shape ever) and Scam Jones saying Makhmudov could have been disqualified. Like clockwork them 2.

The winner of TKV v Clarke.
That's what Allen should look at next if it means signing with Shalom then do it.

Nothing alarming really, a fighters promoter promoting. The whole Allen being in shape thing is a joke. I saw all the pics of him appearing slim but never with his top off. I could see it from a mile off that he was going to have a gut. The guy is carrying a gut in every fight and has no place being 18 and half stone, he needs to slim down to 230lbs which would be a career lightest.

Means nothing, journeyman can be cute.

The only reason Dave Allen is on TV is because he can shift a few ticket with the 'He's taking it seriously now' storyline.

Journeymen are some of the cutest boxes going - they know how to lose without either getting hurt or looking dangerous.

Allen couldn't beat Frazier Clarke, he's not winning the British belt

Not sure how a fairly comprehensive defeat against a very ordinary fighter earns him a British title shot. Maybe fight the loser, go for the English title first, or get a couple more wins against your Dacres, Adeleyes etc. of the world first.

Or, as a marketable name, get in on the Misfits circus. He’d make a killing there.

To be fair he'd be very dangerous against this misfit no marks. Dave is a solid pro. No more than that, but tough with chin and some pop.
Should never have been headlining and it's bizarre how much he gets sold to the public. I cant think of anyone in recent years that gets the push he does, but he's never even won a British title. Clarke should beat TKV so where does that leave him.

Oh aye, I wouldn’t put him in with Doobyhead420 or anyone like that, but more in the world of the novelty fights against people from a bit of a combat sports background like Till, that Chambers lad or Tommy Fury etc.

Losing to Makhmudov doesn't get you a British title shot. Selling 9,000 tickets for it does, though.

Didn't Allen get in good shape against Price and get beaten up? He also got in good shape against Thomas and that ended after about 30 seconds.

Maybe he fights better with extra weight?
