Whats a lot more? He basically did as good as he ever would have.
He was never beating Whyte and Ortiz even fit as a fiddle. All of his other losses turning into wins doesn't actually make him any better really lol. Those other blokes weren't very good, and don't move the needle. Most he could have achieved to be fair is a big pay day to get stomped in a world title eliminator.

That could have been it, too. One of them was saying he was getting hit too much. Could have been him. He certainly said as much in the post fight interview.

Personally I think he could have done more if he had taken his career a lot more seriously. But IMO this fight is a pretty good indicator of his level. At the very best he could be someone capable beating the likes of Makhmudov, but thats not really world class.
Maybe a top 20 guy in his hypothetical peak.

And a younger Makh probably would have stopped Allen. His punches aren't as quick or snappy as they used to be. Not sure that Allen is better than Jonathon Rice tbh who Makh outboxed broke down and stopped inside 7 rounds over 6 years ago.

He's never been as fit as a fiddle or taken training remotely as seriously as a professional athlete with serious aspirations of succeeding should do. Lazy, terrible diet, not living right, problems in his personal life, and has spent too much time in the gym sparring getting his brain bashed in by Brit Level, elite levels, world levels and plenty of huge and big punchers

He said he started taking training more seriously for this fight (albeit he shouldn't be near 260lbs) but it's too late to start doing that now the damage is already done. I don't think he should ever contemplate fighting again.

He was 11-0 with 10 amateur fights when he was thrown in with a 26-0 Ortiz who had 360 + amateur fights. The Dosser had 40 amateur fights, was an Olympic bronze medalist, and they still wouldn't put him in with someone like Ortiz until he was 39-0 and Ortiz was 38 y/o

He was 10-0 when he fought a 17-1 Whyte. Fought Whyte and Ortiz in B2B fights

I really wonder what boxing would look like if everyone had to always fight close to their own level. Hate those mismatches and they can derail people.

Hope Allen's made enough money to call it a day. But I assume the problem here is that right now he is riding a wave of public support which will make earning money with fights way easier.

Same problem with chisora basically. It's not the fighters health but his earning potential that determines the way forward. Hard to stop when you are earning more than before.

    Yeah

He said he blew most of the money he earned earlier on in his career on his gambling addiction but he's earned well in recent years and he he's an intelligent guy, a good speaker, obviously very popular, and he could easily get into doing punditry. He also trains and manages a few young fighters too

Allen and Chisora have taken way too much punishment in both actual fights and in the gym. They must have very thick craniums but one day it's going to catch up with them

Allen should take some easier, domestic level fights where he won’t get pounded while banking 500,000 or more purses.

Winning a British belt would be a massive honor for him I’m sure.

I am not a massive fan of booing the opponent. Even way less so after the fight. Even less when someone as nice as makhmudov talks his Heart out after the fight.

But they otherwise created a great athmosphere and pushed allen. I thought singing 'only one david allen' was a really nice touch - seemed like an hommage to ricky hatton?

The thing i was most impressed about with allen was how he threw himself into his punches in half distance around round ten. That Takes bravery!

Allen said bridgeerweight was a possibility if he can lose the weight

With how thin that division is, he can win a title there

A title is a title, can make history

If Allen is smart, he’d target Larena. He’s only 6’1 and far from unbeatable.
