Satterfield had a Satterfield problem. He abused drugs and alcohol and was an absolute kamikazee as someone else here said. Which led to his inconsistency. He had top tier power but many won’t admit it here. The men he fought certainly had no problem saying he was the hardest hitter they fought. Men like Archie Moore, Harold Johnson, Marty Marshall etc. these are men that faced MONSTER punchers.

He could catch lightning in a bottle with his style, no doubt, but it also cost him quite often. As far as beating those that come after him I don't take a ton of credence in beating a last minute replacement in Williams. Don't really remember any greats from earlier eras who he starched.

He beat highly ranked men like Lee Oma (I dont think much of him but he did come before him and was highly ranked at one point). He beat Baker, Holman, Nino, Harold Johnson and beating Williams was a big deal. He was the def of a glass cannon though.

Oma, who wasn't much, beat him immediately in a return. Baker and Valdes were only a couple years younger than Satterfield but that weren't bad wins. Harold was a great fighter (who also immediately KO'd him) but a lightheavy. Nino? He was in the midst of a real losing streak. All in all, he was a high risk opponent type.

There's context, but the embarrassing defeats never went away. He just did not have a good chin or stamina at any weight.

Bob was obviously entertaining to watch.

He could def. punch but whatever his raw power, it was aided and abetted by his propensity to swing for the fences from go to whoa which a lot of other fighters don’t commit to as exclusively and consistently as Satts did.

Fair to argue that someone like Foreman hit materially harder than Liston at his best but Sonny kept his power intelligently harnessed and regulated within his skillset otherwise.

If Liston went all in on each and every shot, it’s easy to imagine him hitting just as hard, if not harder, than Foreman.

But of course, if Sonny did fight like that, he would’ve been that much more prone to gassing later in a fight - similar to the way young Foreman did.

Just imo, but if post Zaire Foreman fought the Machen who engaged Liston in 1960, Foreman may well have dropped a decision as he did to Young.

1960 Machen vs prime Foreman? Well George likely sees Eddie off early but…if he doesn’t catch him soon enough, there’s a fair chance he might encounter serious problems as the rounds began to mount.

LaMotta beat more than a few good fighters.

I'm focusing on the Lamotta fight here.
