So I'm thinking along the lines of maybe Roberto Duran.
Beat SRL then in his next fight he walked away.

Buster Douglas. He has the fight of his life against Tyson, then the next fight crashed in 3 against Holyfield.

He “lost” but Uncle Jimmy “beat” Norton the heir apparent in the absence of Foreman or runs him very close and then immediately loses to Ossie Occasio.

Recently George Kambosos having arguably his best moment in his career when he beat Teofimo Lopez only to be completely outclassed in his next fight against Devin Haney.

Michael Nunn looking like a million against Kalambay and then looking ordinary against Barkley. Bob Arum was livid with him after that fight.

    Audley Harrison.

Destroys Danny Williams in three rounds, and some people start to think that they might have ben wrong about him.

Then in his next fight he gets smashed in three by Michael Sprott.

Rolando Pascua. He looked great in knocking out then unbeaten Chiquita Gonzalez, then looked completely listless in his next fight, getting stopped by Melchor Cob Castro.

Duran lost to Hagler by a razor thin decision, he almost won...then gets destroyed by Hearns.

But yeah, beating Leonard and then quitting is worse.

I guess Liston has to qualify, back to back first round KOs of Patterson and then Ali……but Ali’s own brilliance had a lot to do with it…if no Ali, then Sonny reigns that much longer…Ali did the same rug pull on Foreman 10 years later…..

Duran went double-or-nothing, with Ray Leonard showing him up both times: He had the two Leonard fights back to back and also followed his masterful win over Iran Barkley with a sluggish, deflated loss to Ray in their third fight.

Mike Tyson also pulled the trick twice: From Carl Williams KO 1 win to Buster Douglas loss; from Bruce Seldon KO 1 win to first Evander loss.

    Good Call.

Certainly blew out a lot of candles on that Sprott fight. Lots of folks were buying into that amateur pedigree & southpaw & his size. Kind of an improved version of JL Gonzalez, for whatever that was worth.
