To someone that knows absolutely nothing and is putting on gloves for the first time? Sure. For a high level pro who needs systems, strategies, traps, and an eye on the outside to adapt gameplans mid fight, as a Wilder fan I would be skeptical based a lot on what Bubbles touched on in his post above. Wilder has never really seemed to intellectualize boxing, and Im not sure that would translate well to the higher levels. But seems like he could make a good general coach at a local boxing gym of his city for the general public, for sure... not every boxing coach as to be high level. But in terms of coaching professional boxing no I dont see it.
This seems like an accurate assessment to me. I'm sure he could assist to some degree (the experience of being a belt holder and an Olympian). But I just can't see it at any sort of elite level. In addition I don't know that he has a humble enough ego to let someone else have all the limelight.
Lol, I'm no Wilder hater like most, but those chicken legs are really a sight to behold. He seems to be doing a solid job in this video.
He could possibly be a good coach if he finds the right charge. People say the most talented boxers do not make the best coaches, but Wilder was a bit of an anomaly in that he wasn't the most talented boxer except in respect to his power, and to a lesser extent, speed. If he finds a pupil with similar attributes, maybe he can pass down the wisdom as to how to get outboxed for half the fight before unleashing a bolt from the blue to lay them out.
It would be hilarious if he really committed to making a mega gym and just churning out fighter after fighter that windmills like a maniac
It's sad that this is a serious question........ Wilder is on record for saying "they have to be perfect for 12 rounds, I only have to be perfect for one punch" and other quotes similar to it. How could a man who cared NOTHING about the sweet science enough to attempt to learn how to box rather than relying on a wild wide over hand club punch to bail him out of all trouble.........how could someone with that mindset coach anyone to be great in the ring. You fooling yourself if you even attempt to get yourself to believe he's a good coach. Have you not seen him in the ring
Why is it that when people point out the obvious flaws, they are labeled a hater. How bout instead of trying to label others as haters, explain to those "haters" why they are wrong about Wilder's coaching ability. You say he's doing a solid job in this video..... as a coach/trainer, I saw 4 flaws of coaching before this young man threw his first punch. I'm open to point those things out if you can't see the obvious.......
I’ve seen far worse, yes I can spot flaws, no I’m not engaging in a pissing contest on the internet. It was better than I expected from Wilder. Also, me stating most are Wilder haters wasnt in reference to this thread.
So because you've seen far worse then that means everything that said about Wilder is unwarranted? And it's not a pissing contest, it's called having a discussion. Something that adults do from time to time. If you can spot the obvious flaws, which is MAJOR then I'm not sure how you can suggest he is or can be a good trainer. People lose their lives in the ring. Having a trainer who can't prepare you in an appropriate manner to protect yourself from the worse happening is a stupid thing to do as a boxer. Especially when that trainers mindset is that all fighters should literally "die" in the ring rather than taking a TKO. If you or someone you loved is being trained by him and is in the ring vs an opponent who is clearly putting belt to a$$ and you aren't equipped to protect yourself and/or return fire, the corner is suppose to protect you from unnecessary damage......but Wilder......"If he dies, he dies".......lol.
Deontay Wilder won the National Golden Gloves via a dominant 5-0 decision. Deontay Wilder won the US Boxing Amateur Championships via a dominant 31-15 points win. Deontay Wilder won the US Olympic Trials, reeling off four straight decisions. Deontay Wilder broke his right hand, switched tactics, and won the WBC Heavyweight Title via dominant, near shut-out, 12-round unanimous decision. Every major title Deontay Wilder won as an amateur and pro was via decision. None were won via KO. Deontay Wilder didn't lose his first decision as a pro until he was 38 years old. Yet, on this board ... it's Wilder can't box. Wilder is a one-trick pony. Wilder never would have accomplished anything if he couldn't punch. For a guy who's talked about so much on this board, it seems very few posters know anything about him at all. They just repeat the same nonsense over and over, regardless of the facts. Deontay Wilder was always in shape, never quit, and always believed he would find a way to win. Sounds like a great coach. He definitely wouldn't enter the ring with a fat slob who was looking for a way out. And we've seen plenty of boxers like that who were supposedly guided by "great trainers."
You’re assuming a bunch of things. The majority of things you’re mentioning aren’t things I said or meant even if you inferred them. Nice on the condescending comment dip **** - maybe ask me what I actually mean or think about things before making assumptions and multiple paragraph posts about it. I would say “thats something adults do” but obviously that’s not true, as evidenced by arrogant ******s like you. and to piggyback off of what @Dubblechin said - since you claim to be a trainer/coach, I hope you get an athlete who accomplishes a fraction of what Wilder has….
Awww. Is it that time of the month. You are extremely emotional. All the name calling because you don't know how to express yourself. Quit crying and taking things so personally little lady. This is the internet. I don't even exist in your life beyond you responding to me.......lol. It's that simple girly.... Damn lighten up. And yes, I think that is what all trainers hope for ALL of the athletes they train..... That they accomplish even a "fraction" of what Wilder has..... I'm guessing you thought that would hurt my feelings....lol..... Would love to get a professional boxer on my resume..... I'm working on it.... I have had some success with a few football and basketball players though.... Thanks for your well wishes and encouragement on my journey though........lol....
LOL at all the 'experts' in this thread who think they know better than a former heavyweight champion.
