I thought this will be interesting to ask and yes across all weight classes in general.

Obviously a bit unfair on the 2020s but never the less a lot has happened in 2020-2025 so I include it.

all decades produced great top fighters, but some era's obviously produced both more & better top men, simply because if a fighter can fight 15, 18 and 20 years with 125 - 175 fights with 10-12 year peaks & approx 60 - 70 top fights or more, that obviously stands for something...

the best example I always cite - RJJ, a great fighter, but if he fought to the same requirement of some of these greater era's, well a Tarver would have come along much sooner to him.

20s - early 50s, with obvious great pockets here & there for different shorter periods and/or weight classes.

as I also like to say, GREATS, Greats and greats, because at the Top, very little separates them.

Pre-1930s I think. It's partly to do with activity, partly to do with body of work (number of fights), partly to do with level of competition. I don't know what decade specifically but either 00s or 10s as both Gans and Langford were active. ****ing insane those boys, insane, and they fought many, many great men. I note that McGovern's year of the butcher lapsed into the 00s, so i'll go for 1900s.

Seventy s closely followed by the 80 s , two of the best imo.

I will say the sheer number of fights the top fighters in those era's had is pretty much impossible in the modern era.

Even Canelo's close to 70 fight career is kinda like a last hurrah.

Too hard of a question to give a definitive answer. Every decade had talent and every decade had ineptitude. Some divisions were better in one decade while not so much in others.

I mean who knows, but there would have to be a lot of changes to get back to it that's for sure.

They might not be the best--but they are ABSOLUTELY my two all-time favorite decades for boxing! (So many great fighters and great fights--we truly didn't know how good we had it!!)

The seventy s of course had the heavyweight golden era.
The eighty's had the great lower weighs fighter s, topped off with the famous 4.

When completing research to help determine my top 25 p4p fighters in each decade for Rummy's sticky thread, I recall being surprised at how strong the 1910's were. Greb, Langford, Wilde, B. Leonard and McFarland are all in my top 20 p4p fighters of all time and each did great work in that decade, as did such ATGs as the Gibbons brothers, Britton, TKL and Welsh.

That said, I voted the 1940's. My top 4 from that decade, SRR, Charles, Louis and Pep, are all in my top 11 p4p ATGs. You've got arguably the greatest ever HW, LHW, WW and FW right their doing their finest work in the decade. Charley Burley, Jimmy Bivins, Holland Williams and Archie Moore also each did great work in the 40's. The 1940's has insane quality and strength in depth for ATGs.

Definitely. I don't expect anything like 100+ fight careers as being realistic but fighters actually fighting say a solid 3-4 times a year or something who knows maybe we can see that again.
