That fight would be a lullaby for all those who would watch that fight, Usyk maybe 8-4 in a very boring fight...
Usyk would have Byrd completely overwhelmed with volume late after a long feeling/out decoding process do to Byrds style. I say Usyk gets the ref stoppage or Byrds dad throws in that towel by the 10th or 11th. Byrd NEVER faced someone like Usyk.
Laughable Usyk has not stopped one ranked Heavyweight yet he's going to stop a very durable defensive fighter ? no. It would be a close decision with probably Usyk edging it but certainly no stoppage...... Usyk isn't a puncher.
I could see Byrd's style giving Usyk a lot of trouble. Against faster cruisers in Briedis and Hunter he didn't look as good vs against a slower guy like Gassiev/Joshua.
Come on man… Didn’t look as good against Hunter?? The guy he almost broke the neck of in the 12th because he snapped his head almost to the middle of his back?? Usyk started completely taking over that fight by the 7th round on. That 12th was a 10-8. Briedis is a way different fighter than Byrd and has way more to be wary of in the punch department though. Very underrated power. I just envision Usyk swarming Byrd late with not much to worry about as far as counter shots that hurt him.
Usyk is a bit more of a puncher then he lets on, but I do agree with you about Byrd. As a matter of fact, I am a huge fan. Love both these guys, and it would be a tougher fight than a lot of people here are letting on. One thing about Byrd is that along with the speed and the southpaw style, he never, ever quit, which is why he gets FULL credit for the Vitali fight. Maybe an act of god saved him but he hung in there waiting for it.
Usyk would have a pretty horrible time figuring out Byrd's style, who was one of the trickiest HWs of the modern era. Constantly standing in the pocket feinting, pawing, ducking, weaving, then popping you with a laser fast shot out of nowhere, dipping off to the side and repeating it all over again. One thing that made him really hard to land on was that his head movement was so unpredictable. He'd pretend to dip one way then straighten up or dip the other way or sway back, so you'd never know exactly where the target was going to be between the initiation of a punch and its arrival. It's why slower guys like Vitali, Golota and Ike looked so crude fighting him. Usyk doesn't have that problem of course, but he would be missing his fair share of shots early on against Byrd because everyone did. I expect Usyk to have figured him out somewhat by the halfway stage and begin turning up the heat, but I also see Byrd having success in some of these rounds, but just not quite doing enough on workrate to take the rounds. Usyk by close UD.
I actually think Byrd did very well vs Vitali and Vitali's domination was severely overrated. Byrd was parrying the bigger man's jab all night and took it away from him. He started backing up the bigger in the 2nd half of the fight, and Vitali was starting to get visibly tired from all the missed punches. Byrd was also a late replacement aswell so he deserves credit IMO. This is how i scored it. Chris Byrd vs Vitali Klitschko 1 Vitali 2 Vitali 3 Byrd 4 Vitali 5 Byrd 6 Byrd 7 Vitali 8 Vitali 9 Byrd 10 Vitali doesn't come out for the 10th round 86-85 Vitali
Usyk destroys any version of Byrd, Byrd has neither the skill nor the power to put up any resistance...
