Would Schmeling have beaten Baer on literally any other night?

So you if you take away his best win and one of the greatest wins in heavyweight history and look at everything he did through a negative slant then he was inconsistent and not as good as fighters with far less impressive records. I understand.

    Schmeling fought 70 times.
    Uzcudun fought 69 times.
    Sharkey fought 53 times.
    Baer fought 79 times.
    Hamas fought 40 times.
    Louis fought 69 times.
    Braddock fought 77 times.

I guess your excuse for Farr losing to all the guys he lost to is that he fought often.

Didn't be beat Sharkey in the first fight and the second fight he should have won? Since you're the 30s HW guy who were the best fighters of the era besides Louis? I would think Schmeling would be at the top no?

It’s what makes me feel that Schmeling was pretty good but not that good. Braddock out boxed Baer and he was no all time great. Louis of course wrecked Baer. If Max was as good as some like to think he should have found a way to give himself some advantage instead he let Baer smack him around. A fighter with only club fighter skills. No one has given a good reason why Schmelimg would have done better another night so I have to think he was just not good enough.

If you put Max against Max, Max will usually win.

Schmeling was getting spanked by Sharkey in their first fight until the foul — no way around it. Unfortunately, that was Sharkey’s last outing in near-prime form; he faded rapidly through the ’30s.

The Baer fight was marginally competitive at best. Baer, even on his good nights, had stretches of mediocrity and lapses in focus, but once he locked in from rounds eight through ten, it was brutally one-sided.

Schmeling’s loss to Sharkey in their rematch remains questionable, and his victory over Louis stands as historic — one of those rare nights where timing, preparation, and style all converged.

He was a good fighter in an era filled with good, but not great, heavyweights. His crushing loss to Baer remains one of the more puzzling collapses of that period.

The is one big knock on Schmeling. If he’s a really good fighter how did she get beat so bad by a big powerful club fighter? I think Max S was a bit of a choir boy and was surprised by Baers dirty tactics and had no answer. But that doesn’t answer just how bad this loss was. Doesn’t resemble the Schmeling in second Sharkey who was a skilled tactician but was robbed of the decision.
