Boxers who seemingly lost their knockout power

    The last time he looked like he was really sitting on his punches, with no concerns was versus Gatti.

    Later on, a mixture of hand issues, higher weight and a more cautious, pot shotting style seemed to take the sting out of his punches, yet, nobody really walked him down with impunity.

    I’m stealing both of these off @greynotsoold … look at Maxie Rosenblooms early career before the hand troubles he had most of his stoppages then lol and on the reverse we have Conn who gained punching power at HW… or perhaps easier targets?

    Correct! Although Moorer was the Tyson of the Cruiserweights, for some reason I cannot understand, he was never promoted the same way! Moorer's knockouts should have been sent to every news outlet in the USA and Europe.

    I was thinking about that...the inverse..who started out as a cutie and gained power later on? You can also say about Hector Camacho, who was mentioned earlir by someone else, that towards the end he started showing some pop again...

    Oh yes, definitely.

    That is another way for it to happen. Many boxers do not overcompensate on their punches after a tragedy, afraid that it can happen again, It sort of happened to me too in a way after Mancini-Kim. The two times i went into a ring at the gym and all my street fights, every time I threw a punch, something in my brain told me "be careful, you can kill him!"

    In Puerto Rico there was Panadero Cruz who had many knockout wins early. And then one of his opponents died in New York (and tragically enough, this opponent himself had had an opponent die the year before!) and Panadero was never the same.

    Don't know Calzage very well, but didn't he became more of a high volume feather duster due to hand issues?

    Nigel Benn looked devastating at middleweight but less so at super middle. I dont think it was just him hitting bigger men as most SMWs at that time were just middles who weren't cutting weight.

    It was like his own extra poundage took away some of the snap. I don't think he was being more conservative after Watson stopped him as he hit Barkley and Doug De Witt with some horrible shots while still a middleweight.
