If you rate Marciano as a CRUISER is he #1?

Well he'd be pretty high. Holyfield and Uysk are the obvious barriers to him being #1. Both would be close fights.

 

I think himself, Langford, Dempsey, Usyk, Holyfield and possibly the best of David Haye will be around for the final stages of the hypothetical H2H championships.

Also depends on whether you allow the best 180+ versions of Ezz and Archie to compete - Archie's HW record is relatively insane when you consider how long he was a top fighter that was able to compete for the LHW title.

 

All the old timers would be much better cruiserweights then heavyweights but let’s not think that they are automatically all time greats. You have the modern cruiserweights that have all the advantages like Holyfield and Usyk. One old timer who could be very good against modern fighters is Joe Louis who spent much of his prime under 200.

 

I rate him as a HEAVY top-10.

I know Usyk can box, but he doesn't have much power (compared to). Marciano would get in there, close.

 

I honestly think Holy without PEDs gets beat. Those fights with Qawi were competitive. Yeah, he went on to be a great heavy...as Evan Fields.

 

He's a factor on the top of the list for sure. Even head to head. Dude was an animal.

 

It is difficult to answer that question, because every fight of his career was at heavyweight.

Whatever the fighters weighed, there was no weight cut, or stipulation for them to come in under a specified weight.

I suppose that if we retrospectively recognized a cruiserweight division then he could be top three if you pegged it at 200lbs.

If you pegged it at 190 then he would be significantly lower.

 

Marciano,Langford,Usyk,Holyfield and Dempsey would all be scrambling for number one position in cruiserweight division.

 

He was 185lbs in the ring, with narrow shoulders and not much potential to put on lean mass. Far more likely that he cuts down to 175 than compete at cruiserweight. 5'10 is short even for a cruiserweight.

The list of guys who boxed at a weight between 185 and 200 contains some all time greats. Ranking them in order is impossible IMO.

So no, Rocky isn't number 1.

 

I’d rate Muhammad Ali up through about his 18th fight higher than Marciano — I think his first 14 or 15 he was under 200 and could easily have still made 200 had he needed to when he was coming in at 204-ish for a few bouts.
