Wow both lads knocked the hell out of each other definitely each suffered a concussion. Good recovery from Juarez. Also good work from the referee deducting points for holding. If that round was scored it would have to be 7-7?
Thought the referee should have stopped it on the first knockdown. Juarez chicken walked and was off with the fairies. As a minimum, the referee should have asked Juarez to raise his gloves to show he could continue and looking at his eyes and unsteady feet, I doubt if he would have responded in a manner suggesting he could. Still, on they went and the result is history.
Good work from the referee? That is Laurence Cole, the most corrupt scumbag ref in boxing. Remember Lomachenko - Salido? Well he once again did everything to protect the Mexican. Should have waved off after the first knockdown, Juarez walked to his opponent whilst he was counting, Juarez had no idea where he was.
Btw, I had money on this fight thinking it would be an easy win for Juarez. I thought the first 2/3 rounds would be competitive due to the style matchup and Juarez´s porous defense, but after that Juarez would end up walking through Layton. Boy was I clenching my buttcheeks. I thought it was over after the firs knockdown, and the ref could have easily stopped in then and there.
I came in here to list a couple good/crazy first rounds... but actually, in 20 years watching boxing that is indeed probably the craziest first round Ive ever seen. Thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing.. Lawrence Cole bumbling an obvious KO in the first round turned this into a classic lol
10/10 for entertainment but 0/10 for the referee who should 100% be investigated for his performance here.
That ref is Laurence Cole, widely considered one of the worst refs in history, so yeah that's par for the course for him............... original topic: I came in to say Powell/Bundrage 1 but then watched this..........................yeah this probably is the craziest first round ever. The first knockdown honestly should've been the end of the fight. Him actually coming back from that to win is pretty nuts. All credit
Yeah, I actually think if anything, he stopped it too early for Layton after letting Juarez hold onto the guys waist half consciously for half a round.
