Guys that you felt sorry for when they lost. I can't watch Marciano knocking Joe Louis down for the last time, With out feeling sorry for him. Same as Ali against Holmes of course. More recent fights, big Frank Bruno getting helped back to his corner, after Tyson battered him, then Tyson rubbing his head and hugging him. Lol Boxing's a funny old sport
Ali - Frazier III. Frazier allegedly begged Eddie Futch to let him fight despite being at death’s door and did not speak to him again after that match. I know all too well what’s its like when your body cannot keep up with where your mind wants it to go, its a very rough feeling, especially when there is such a heated rivalry at play. Frazier would rather die swinging than to go out like that, it must have been really hard on his ego.
Alexis Arguello in the 2nd Pryor fight. Sitting there being counted out, resigned. Colin Jones at the end of Donald Curry match
Yes that's a good example. I felt for Joe in the rematch with Foreman. He's changed his tactics to a degree and gotten past the second round, but he's still getting hit hard and only a matter of time.
I've always felt sorry for Sonny Liston. For the most part he's regarded as just a thug brute who quit against Ali in both of their fights. The real story about Sonny is a lot different--(and much more complex and nuanced.)
There’s also the fact that Liston did reform somewhat but certain sections refused to forget his past - D’Amato to name one but he had the ulterior agenda of trying to protect his man Patterson. Otherwise, the cops also went hard to find Liston guilty of some minor stuff.
Joey Gamache when they sent him in to be slaughtered by Gatti. I dont know what the official weight difference was but Gatti looked about 2 weight classes bigger. Gamache is lucky he lived through that one. Its a cold buiisness.
He was though considering his childhood. The way he was raised what else could he be? I give him credit for not being a serial killer with a father like that. The fact he won the heavyweight championship suggests he had some good in him as well.
I feel sorry for all the fighters who fall upon hard times once the glory days are gone.Kirkland Laing for example
