Floyd saying during interviews that he has beaten more world champions than anyone in his history of boxing. He shouldn't need to campaign for TBE status. A great boxer which he was should be able to let the record speak. Besides he's not being totally honest.
The footage aligns with what Ali said? Which version? he says a lot… for example Ali also said what aligns with what actually happened, that he conned Foreman like I keep saying… “The psychology is not really taking punches. Making myself what you might call a'mirage.' Making the fella see something he think he don't see. Make him punch, looking for openings. The object of the fight is to chase a man, or to cornerhim, and they all think I'm gonna dance and run - Foreman thought that. What happens was and they punched away, looking for openings, and they're whammingthe jaws and the sides and the arms... If you're in top-notch shape andexperienced, you know how to stand there for a while. All these fellas threw shots all day, didn’t one come through. What's gonna happen is, this man's gonna charge me. This is why I use this psychological thing, just to blast away, and after three rounds, it's all easy going for me because he's tired.' - Muhammad AIi
That George Foreman lifted Joe Frazier off the canvas with that uppercut. He didn't. If he had, Joe goes airborne on impact. Instead, half a second passes and then Joe does a strange jump. The footage is there. How does this still get trotted out when we've all had access to the fight for decades?
Because he was a warrior that's why. We all loses our senses eventually, but Ali's legacy is so far beyond Mayweather the two are not comparable. Ali was named sportsperson of the century by illustrious publications. People will be quoting Ali hundreds of years from now whereas your average person on the street doesn't know who Mayweather is, especially outside the US. Mayweather lived for other people's approval, whereas Ali was a man of the people, which is what Floyd could never be. That's why he does retirement tours and interviews constantly trying to sell the narrative.
So true. Joe did that twitchy reflex jump thing after getting hit. Still shots of Joe airborne are deceiving. There is one long right hand that GF landed that may or may not have lifted Joe off the deck on impact - there’s a very less often seen angle of said punch. I’ll see if I can find it. Joe Louis almost literally did lift 233 1/2 lbs of Galento off the deck with a single left. Extraordinary.
I don’t mind Al Bernstein but the oft repeated title Prince of Pugilism was a bit irksome. Al himself didn’t appear to be too pleased with it. I also didn’t mind Bob Sheridan - but where did he get The Colonel from? A love for KFC perhaps? Such mysteries in boxing.
I’ve met Al a few times and he’s as nice and gracious as anyone you’d ever meet. And he doesn’t mind talking boxing at all, that’s for sure. And at least as far as fights he’s called — and remember he’d do commentary on basically entire cards in case they needed to show some of the four-rounders to fill out the broadcast if the featured fights ended early, so literally thousands of fights and fighters — he has a mind like a steel trap. He would bring up fighters from where I’ve lived (when I mentioned it) and have a very clear memory of a fight, how it ended, etc. Sorry I never met the Colonel. Seems like another guy who would share a friendly chat with a fellow boxing enthusiast.
What’s to envy? I can’t think of why anyone would want to be in a borderline vegetive state during there “Golden Years” all that work and you wind up basically an ATM for people? Literally no one would pick Ali’s career over Mayweathers if they’re honest.
I in fact did meet the Col. along with David Tua on the AC boardwalk. He is in fact super friendly. Definitely was a good man.
