I'd give it to Crawford. Whilst I think Clenelo is badly faded, hasn't stopped anyone in 4 years of cherrypicking, cannot deal with certain styles to save his life, was a very favourable stylistic match up for Crawford, and Crawford is virtually the same size as him and the whole David vs Goliath narrative was ridiculous. It's the best win and achievement of the year, or at least on paper If Inoue beats the Spanish painter he will have racked up 4 title wins in a year, likely 3 via KO, but only MJ moves the needle
There's an argument for Inoue based on activity, but Crawford will get it (and IMHO be a deserving winner) for the win over Canelo - the biggest fight of the year and also at the right time for the voting as it's still fresh in peoples' minds.
4 defences of the undisputed crown in a year is very impressive, but so is becoming the first 3 divisions undisputed champion in the multiple belts era. Bud will probably win with the name recognition of Canelo and the magnitude of the event.
For me I think Inoue since of the big three P4P fighters he was the most active and his wins had good weight behind them. Crawford is a close second because he only fought once this year but his win carries a bit more weight than say Inoue or Usyk.
I suspect Crawford will get it, partly because Inoue already got in it '23. Not that it won't be contested. There's a big difference between one and four fights. If the Japanese defeats Picasso then he'll have beaten an A level, B level, C level, and D level guy in a calender year. Because Inoue fought cautiously the MJ fight was hardly spoken about. Fact is he dominated the #1 contender at 122.
Wouldn't that be best win of the year? Personally, I feel that fighting merely once a year disqualifies anyone from being the fighter of the year.
Honestly, I don't see why anyone should be picking anyone other than either Crawford or Inoue. Becoming a 3x Undisputed is in the 4 belt era by going up multiple divisions is a feat unheard of...... But in the same since, becoming Lineal champion 3x within a calendar year is equally amazing.
Best but maybe not the one with the highest degree of risk and difficulty Many others also feel that way but I think they'll give it to Crawford
Also, American fighters have only won the award twice since 2010 and many fans on social media will be crying baba tears again about how they keep awarding it to ''undeserving'' non-Americans and that there is some kind of conspiracy to do so Hell, give it to Inoue again just to pee them off 2010s 2010: This content is protected 2011: This content is protected 2012: This content is protected 2013: This content is protected 2014: This content is protected 2015: This content is protected 2016: This content is protected 2017: This content is protected 2018: This content is protected 2019: This content is protected 2020s 2020: This content is protected and This content is protected 2021: This content is protected 2022: This content is protected 2023: This content is protected 2024: This content is protected
I tend to agree but other than Inoue beating MJ, Cardenas, Kim, and potentially Picasso who else is there other than Crawford? Usyk fought once too
Inoue deserves it if he wins in december but the Americans journalists will probably choose Crawford.
