Sad truth is that there's no market for a Germany-born Kurd with parents immigrating from Turkey: Christian citizens warm to Klitscho-type multi-language Christians and the Turkish population to their own, mildly. There is no boxing market left in Germany nor Kabayel ever had strong promotional backing. Boxing is tough sell if you lack market & marketability.
"but at the end of the day, Chisora, Mahkmudov, Sanchez and Zhang ain't murderer's row." Depends on one's standard but it's a stiff lineup to come through with all wins in dominant fashion (barring Makhmudov who was a hypejob). Beating Chisora as the B-side is tough. Whyte 1, Parker 1 and Pulev 2 likely fail to do it based on those performances. Would a prime Joyce have done it? The only guys Chisora fought who I'd clearly favour to pull it off are Fury, Vitali, Haye, Usyk and...Kabayel. Very strong company. It's hard to say with Sanchez given his only decent win is Ajagba. But he's only lost to Kabayel and he's the only man to beat Ajagba thus far among some fairly competent operators. Itauma's team seem to think the post-Kabayel Sanchez is too risky. Zhang gave Hrgovic, Joyce and Parker kittens, losing debatable decisions while doing most of the damage or brutally beat them but Kabayel went through him in 6 largely one-sided rounds. Those three were arguably all top 10 level and had radically different styles. Kabayel has proven a lot for me.
Germany had a decent sized boxing market for a while there, it was relatively popular and brought in the cash, was probably third or fourth biggest in the world after the Klitschko's, do they just not like Kabayel? Anyway with Usyk announcing his next moves, Kabayel should be able to take a fight shortly.
Kabayel desperately tries to get someone better than hysa. He is not gunshy and he really does not duck anybody , the same is true for parker. What a difference to the forums darling ...
I don't think Kabayel is ducking anyone, he just has an unrealistic idea of his own value. One thing about these Oceania fighters like Parker, Huni, Opetaia etc is that they will take reduced purses and travel to make the fights happen.
Kabayel is definitely not ducking anyone but he might be ducked by others . His value sharply rised after zhang because he not only beat zhang but he brutalized him with the body shots , being the first one to KO zhang , showing incredible agressivity and fearlessness. It might be a "one hit wonder" or kabayel is the true #1 contender , not sure . We need to see him against more top opponents .
Its weird, the Zhang fight may have actually made it hard for him to get fights, because he doesn't have the value, i.e. he can't bring in enough money, for a named/decent opponent to be willing to take on the risk of fighting him. So even though the Zhang win increased his profile, it increased his risk level to potential opponents as well. Parker is not a big ticket seller either, but he at least has a solid little PPV market in NZ (maybe Aus as well?) and has spent a lot of time and effort building a profile in UK + Ireland also. From the sounds of it Kabayel struggles to earn much in his home market the previously profitable Germany and hasn't been able to build up enough of a profile to support a show on his own and pay enough for a fighter to step in the ring with him. Though I have heard Okolie continuously calling for the fight, but it seems like its not happening.
