When Archie Moore was an elderly man when asked about his career he said he loved it

He said he loved it, doesn't regret it and would do it again.

 

He had near about a quarter thousand professional fights and of which some were opponent to among the greatest of his profession to ever exist. Archie devoured literature, had riches, love of the people and friendships with presidents, artists and nobility… he chaired a cause to help the youth that touched many lives and went home to a loving family, acted in films was fit and healthy into his 80s and revered like a folk lore hero / master of a craft so difficult a true title is more uncommon then a winning lottery ticket… would you not wish to ride the roller coaster again? Archie Moore had a perfect human experience. Does one really have to wonder why he was so amicable?

 

Yeah Archie lived his lived to the fullest. Most people could only dream to end their days as Archie did when he died. The man was a walking legend in his 80's.

 

A boxer whose career lasted as long as Archie's could have fought on the same bills as him and Bob Fitzsimmons at the start of his career and Arturo Gatti at the end.

 

Thank you for so much and sorry for so little.

 

He also had lots of heart and perseverance. The way he got up from 4 knockdowns to stop his 29 year old opponent when he himself was well into his 40s is the stuff of lore

 

You stated this far more eloquently than I could have.

He played on the biggest stages in main events from Los Angeles to New York City with stops in most major cities and small venues like Odessa, Texas; Benton Harbor, Michigan; and Ponca City, Oklahoma — toured the entirety of this country to see it all and ply his trade. He toured Argentina, Australia and Brazil, fought from the UK to Canada, Panama to the Philippines and from Germany to Rome. He saw more in one life than most of us all put together.

He devoted his post-boxing life in service to youth. He gave far more than he took. If all of us were just a smidgen more like Archie Moore, the world would be a better place, and he left it better than he found it by making his mark on more lives than we can probably know.

Archie is one of my favorite fighters to watch, but he’s definitely my favorite human being to ever lace them up. May he never, ever be forgotten.

 

This was simply a great man.

occasionally I meet or recognize an 'Honourable' man or woman, though with women the better word might be dignified, the point is, it is usually only occasionally that you meet one of these Human Beings who just represent that and it is unarguably evident.

I believe Archie Moore to be one of those men.

Great career but I bet he still wished he had won the heavyweight title though which in his day was still considered the biggest prize in sport

 

He was a good heavyweight, he only lost to the best at heavyweight.

 

Yeah but Marciano and Patterson are not easy task to overcome (Unless you happen to be Liston in Patterson 1 and 2)

 

His best shot was Patterson… shame it wasn’t to be, no hope with Louis and not much with Marciano and even Patterson seemed to jus overwhelm him, Floyd would be much quicker and harder to interpret in the ring then I can see on film, I’d have bet for Moore to win it back then if I was around.
