Some would even argue he won the fight, if not for some favorable judging on Fury's side.

I can't believe it has been 2 years since that monumental embarrassment of a fight.

Embarrassing for Fury. Joshua cleaned up his mess.

Ngannou won, and I am a boxing guy over MMA, which I only really follow on here.

You don't win a fight by twelve jabs when there is a knockdown against you and a huge argument for clean, hard punching.

You just have to give it to Ngannou as a great athlete.

Fury didn't follow Sugar Hill's Kronk game plan.
To quote Sugar from the interview pre-fight:
'We gonna land dat RH and go home early'.

If Fury had done that he'd have closed the show. Instead he thought he knew better.

AJ listened to Sugar though and did just that.

It's weird because Sugar knows a lot more about boxing than any keyboard warriors on a forums and he said that Fury was now a KO artist, that in fact he'd personally turned him into that. So it's strange Fury couldn't follow his game plan. Why didn't he just do what AJ did?

Another explanation would be that Sugar HIll is a complete imbecile who ignored Fury's entire boxing career and couldn't even make the basic assessment every single pundit had back in the early days, that Fury was not a KO artist.

It's interesting how Fury and Parker both exposed the Kronk myths by failing to become KO artists and instead getting punched in the head way more than ever before.

It was probably for the best that they at least maximized their punching power since their legs were burning out by that point.

The knockdown is merely one point, and you "dont give it to" anyone; you score the fight round by round and make your final verdict based on how those rounds went.

Ngannou barely did anything in the second half of the fight, its why Fury managed the eek out the decision.

I don't know how anyone could still rate Tyson Fury after this fight. It was the worst performance - (in relative terms at least) - of any reigning heavyweight champion in history, by a country mile.

As of today, RING magazine still rate Fury as #1 contender to Usyk. His last "win" being the embarrassment of a fight mentioned here. It beggars belief.

Fury clearly won that fight, doesn’t mean it wasn’t a totally embarrassing farce, but he won based on the scoring system. Morally he lost big time though.

I gave it to Ngannou by a point. Fury was embarrassing. One of the most overrated Heavyweight boxers ive witnessed. I used to cheer for this man, even after all the ducking and dodging, i stuck by him going into Dusseldorf vs Klitschko. Since he initially became a world champion, its be a disappointing decade. Robbed us of so many good match ups from British level all the way through. Had it not been for Turki, we would still have to put up with him and his fans prancing about shouting All Time Great and best of his generation.

One of the most satisfying losses against Usyk. Makes my day when i see him still crying 12 months on. Whilst we are at it, F**K Tommy Fury aswell because why not.

I agree. Those saying Fury lost should rewatch it. Fury wins every single round in the second half. He did deserve the win — barely.

Sometimes it helps for a trainer to tell white lies to make things easier for their boy.

Saying Fury now had that kind of power might make opponents more wary of him and make it easier for him to throw harder and land...

But I don't buy that it was ever true - Fury still only had middling power.

Why didn't he do what AJ did?
Simple - he didn't prepare properly and wasn't fit, but in any case didn't have the power.

    Ngannou has a decent chin.

Fury barely scraping by an mma fighter is roughly the same as losing to one.

    Not embarrassing

What is embarrassing was letting himself get so out of shape knowing a Usyk fight was coming up

He was last in peak fighting shape in 2015. Everything after was mostly using talent and willpower to get by. But his showing against Ngannou was full slob Fury.
