Two very underrated fighters who were champs at 147. You have McGirt's clever boxing against Palomino's workmanlike aggression. Could be a very close fight that can go either way IMO.
I think Palomino would be too much for McGirt late. He had a big edge in stamina. He was competitive with Benitez, and let's be honest, Benitez was a different class from McGirt. If we're talking a 12 rounder, McGirt has a good chance to pull off a close decision. 15 rounder, I definitely go with Palomino.
Good call on the distance being a possible difference-maker here. Buddy may just be slick enough to pick apart Carlos over 12 rounds for a decision, but Palomino was an excellent body puncher who wore down opponents with his assault to the rib cage and midsection. Over 15 rounds, I see that work paying off and allowing Carlos to pull out a decision with a strong finish, perhaps including a knockdown of a tiring McGirt, or even possibly a late stoppage. It would be an interesting tactical fight and I’d love to see how it might play out.
