Joshua is set for a last-minute comeback fight before the end of 2025, according to Hearn. Matchroom has upcoming events scheduled for November 15th, December 13th and December 27th. Hearn was asked if Joshua would fight on one of those shows and he replied: "Yes."
If they fight that soon it will be against a bum. Then you have to think another bum, maybe a third, and then feed him to Itauma for ultimate cash-out 'pass the torch'.
Hearn had already said if Joshua fought this year it would be on an undercard and against a low risk opponent. If Joshua does fight in December - like Hearn is now saying he will - it will be against the worst opponent they think they can get away with.
It shouldn't be. In as much as Hearn is saying Joshua would fight on an undercard. He could have fought on a Chisora-Whyte undercard. Provided there was enough money there for Joshua, I guess?
Joshua is a coward, Dubois scared the **** out of him and it takes him so long to dare to fight again, Hrgovic at least dared to fight twice after his defeat...
It's hard to know where to even start looking for potential opponents for Joshua in December. The name won't be particularly high in the rankings, won't be a big puncher and won't be anyone likely to derail a bigger fight next year. Tony Yoka? 14-3. His name kept coming up again and again. Last fought May this year. Guido Vianello? 14-3-1. His name has been mentioned as an early 2026 opponent for Joshua but Vianello fought on October 11th. Martin Bakolie? 21-2-1. Will they save Bakolie for Joshua's almost inevitable African fight? Last fought May this year.
Mildly interested in the opponent, but it’s likely to be hovering in or above the top 20. Maybe AJ still has a bit left, if he can get 3 more fights in to conclude his career and one big one I will be happy. I think there’s a least one more roll of a dice with a top 5-10 fighter the middle of next year. Even if as expected it’s a walkover opponent that’s ok if it’s on an undercard, it may bring eyes or a crowd to a smaller event. In terms of opponents, it’s plucking from thin air, someone I know would be nice. Yoka had been mentioned before, eliminate him from the scene, all gold medal match up. Vianello and Makhmudov both fought in October, so I think they’ll miss out. I do think he avoids a puncher completely which rules out Makhmudov. I had a look at Berhy who also fought in October. Bakole is too dangerous and definitely a bigger packaged fight.
They were extremely keen for Joshua to fight Jake Paul and Hearn is still saying they would take it - even now - should it become available. That's a sure-fire sign Hearn hasn't got a lot of faith left in what remains of Joshua. His December opponent will be as low risk as they can make it because a loss would be curtains. That's why they are burying it on an undercard. Hearn already intimating it could be an 8 rounder.
At this point now as most posters have already alluded too,Hearn will want the maximum reward fights with the lowest risks for Joshua. Hearn will run us through as many low level opponents as he can get away with for Joshua before hopefully weasleing his way back into a Title shot or a huge cash out fight !
The general public, especially in certain areas with certain fighters, are so frustratingly easy to fleece for their cash.
If Joshua fights this year, it will be against someone from the top 50 to 100 on Boxrec. It won’t be a decent name at all. Just a run-out before Joshua’s potential African debut in February.
December 13th is less than 6 weeks away and December 27th is less than 8 weeks away. Hearn has been saying Joshua is already in training - has been for weeks. Are they going to hinder the opponent with a short preparation by delaying an announcement? Surely if he is going to fight an easybeat, they won't feel that is necessary?
Joshua is damaged goods, not sure what he has to gain by staying in the sport and taking further damage. I honestly think he could lose to a fringe top 25/30 guy at this stage.
