What do you mean? Who was the best from the list?? Buchanan by far, Buchanan is streets ahead of all of those.
I also voted Buchanan. Before my time, but his achievement outranks the other fighters. Plenty of folk who know their stuff have him as the best fighter these Isles have produced.
I’d actually say Graham was the best of the lot, and Bruno had the best career. Buchanan probably had the best peak, but his later comeback kind of diminishes his legacy a bit. Herol was the most naturally talented — just never quite had things fall his way. If he repeated his career 100 times, the version that played out is probably the worst of those 100. A point deduction cost him against McCallum, a lapse in concentration against Jackson when the fight was won, and both Kalambay fights could’ve gone either way. The first came off the back of a promoter change and a dispute with Brendan and Barney Eastwood, and Ingle was absent both in camp and on fight night. Buchanan, Minter, and Stracey were all legitimate champions, but also professional drinkers — and Stracey could’ve given them a good run for it in that department. Magri went on to run a few boozers himself later in life. Sibson ended Minter’s career, Ken beat Jim, and Stracey, for all his achievements, was still pretty much a one-hit wonder, albeit against an all-time great. The Feeney brothers were solid but domestic level. Bruno arguably had the best career in terms of profile and longevity, only ever losing to world champions. Magri was a class apart at European level but could be got at at the very top and often faded after starting fast. Top amateur too, and another one held back by the two-belt era and limited opportunities. Watt probably overachieved. Tough as they come, and very clever with the head — just ask Sean O’Grady. That was one of the first fights I ever remember watching, not live but on VHS. Proper old-school stuff. And trust me, if you met them, most of them would say they were the best of the bunch.
Graham better than Buchanan? HaHaHaHa Bruno had the best career? WTF I've heard so many excuses for Graham over the years, but yours are even going to new depths of delusion. Buchanan was an A Level fighter, excellent all rounder, consistent, proven, fantastic technician. He was like the Joe Calzaghe of his era, that level of talent. He achieved without no ifs or buts. He was respected by everyone in world boxing. He's on a whole another level to the glass jawed nearly man Graham who always found a way to lose.
Bro, had Ken stayed retired you’d have a point — but he didn’t. He came back and went 3–5 against average opponents, which takes a bit of shine off that legacy. He also did it for financial reasons. And remind me — who exactly did Bruno ever lose to that was anywhere near Steve Early’s level? Speaking of delusion, try and last more than a week this time, mate. You’ve made more comebacks than that whole list combined. Keep the account alive as long as mine and I’ll buy you a lifetime subscription to Boxing News. And seriously, you think if Calzaghe came back and lost to Jake Paul, Liam Cameron, and Peter Kramer back-to-back, you’d still be saying the same? Because that’s the level we’re talking about. Steve Early, Lance Williams, and Langton Tinago would probably frame your post and put it above their fireplace, pride of place, if they ever read it.
bro @boxberry92 go make a thread in the classic forum , - Graham or Buchanan who was better. Or Bruno or Buchanan who had the better career. And you'd be laughed out of there and accused of trolling. It's pointless even debating it really. You probably think Danny Williams is greater than Tyson Fury too You're giving me Spencer Fearon type vibes with these comments.
Bro, you’re talking like the Classic Forum is some sacred court of boxing truth. I was ground in reality at LEBA, had all the old-timers telling me Canzoneri was better than Jones and Toney — but half of them couldn’t remember their own past history. Reminds me of you. Oh, and a peak Danny Williams gives Joshua all he can handle — the shell of him you see now probably believes he could still do it too. Probably why Ken came back.
1.Buchanan 2..Minter 3.Bruno 4.Stracey 5. Graham 6. Watt 7. Magri 8.Sibson 9.George Feeney 10. John Feeney Herol was truly talented and as mentioned so eloquently by Boxberry92 he just so unlucky. No doubt he won at least 2 world tiles somewhere in the multiverse! Those losses hurt his standing. Buchanan, Minter, Stracey, Watt and Magri grabbed their world title fights with both fists. Buchanan really was a talented boxer who (except against Watt) won all his big fights abroad. No mean feat. Stracey and Minter also did it in foreign lands.
Sibson at 8 is probably fair but that doesn`t detract from the fact that he was a damn fine fighter.Often under appreciated
Bro… I’m gutted, mate. You didn’t even limp to the day’s dying light, let alone the championship rounds. Sonny Rolled over quicker than Liston did in the rematch with Ali. A ghost in the machine, banned and buried by the mods like a mid-card tomato can waved off in the prelims — another notch in the archives, stacked next to your parade of predecessors, all fading faster than Ken Buchanan’s late-career glow. Even the walking punchline shell of Danny Williams hung tougher over the weekend than this incarnation. You’re actually giving trolls a bad name of late — even Jimbob’s in a Sheffield boozer right now, shaking his head over a flat pint, muttering “amateur hour” like it’s your ring walk. Here’s to the next alias, eh? Renew that NordVPN on your way back from the shadows — I’ll keep Curtis Woodhouse on ice, just in case. Gloves laced, car fuelled. Lights out, troll.
Yeah, agreed mate — my grandad actually thought he had a real shot at Hagler before they boxed. But that night, Marvin showed why it wasn’t just aesthetics that made him go and legally change his name to Marvelous.
