Was Riddick Bowe's wins against Ferguson and Dokes underrated?

Both were seen as soft opposition but enough people speak highly of Ferguson and Dokes on here?

Because Ferguson is a gatekeeper and Dokes was seen as shot

It would take an (old) Holyfield to beat that young, great heavyweight

One could see the crack smoke wafting off Dokes during his ring walk.

He was doughboy corpse of his former self.

No. Neither of them entered the ring remotely prepared. Worst performance of Dokes' entire career. And, likely the worst of Ferguson's.

They were “names” far removed from their respective bests (which in Ferguson’s case was journeyman/fringe contender at best). Dokes was completely washed and spent at this time.

They were crap defenses and added nothing to Bowes legacy. Shocking match making and management by that half witted piece of crap Rock Newman.

Soft defenses, especially Dokes. At least with Ferguson Bowe was scheduled to fight Mercer. Mercer blew it when he lost to Ferguson.

Yes Ferguson was a journeyman but Bowe did look impressive blowing him out of the water. Re-watch the finishing combination. Big heavyweights don’t throw combinations like that.

I thought that was smoke coming from Dokes burning desire.... obviously not.

They were absolute awful defences, I'm sure they could have got a couple of guys better than that.

These are two quality names the thing is more the timing. Jesse Ferguson peaked in like 1985 and Dokes was a HW titleist in 1983. This was 1993.

Most of the praise you see of these 2 is not from that time.

Just saying but Ferguson beat Mercer more convincingly, arguably, than either Holyfield (less so) or Lewis were able to do a few years later. He's a good win on that form.
