Why is Eubank-Benn a PPV? Why all the media hype?

Neither boxer is world class, both are domestic-level. Why is this fight hyped so much in the boxing media, not only in England which I understand, but also in the world boxing media?

And how stupid would someone outside England need to be to buy the DAZN PPV? The undercard is not interesting either.

Now the Haney-Norman DAZN PPV is worth buying, because there's several interesting fights.

But with Eubank-Benn, even the main event is nothing for anyone outside England to get excited about, and the undercard is rather poor.

It shouldn't be PPV. It was a very good competitive fight first time around but it's several levels below world level.

The fathers are actually over-rated these days. As good as they were, they're weren't the all-time greats the media now makes them into. And the sons, although they did their fathers proud with the way they fought last time, are a couple levels below.

I posted several times before the first fight that it was a bit of a pointless headscratcher to me; essentially a 'gimmick' fight between two guys who were trading off the rivalry of their fathers. It was a contest that absolutely did not need to happen.
In fairness to both guys it was an exciting fight and they both showed tonnes of grit and determination. And that sort of legitimized it happening IMO. I still kind of feel the same about the rematch. I don't begrudge either guy for getting well paid. But I always thought this rivalry revealed that both juniors are more interested in making money than becoming world champions or striving to be ATGs.

Yeah, but people love this intergenerational dynasty ****. It doesn't matter that the fathers were ordinary contenders at the world level and the sons are regional operators.

What matters is the dads had a rivalry their boys are continuing. That's the draw, not the level or quantity of the competition.

British casuals are good at eating up horse crap e.g. all AJ fights, Bellew Haye fights etc etc

The fight was interesting with egg Ben on heavy roids...but off roids even an older shotworn Eubank Jr will almost always jab his nut in.

Domestic fights in countries like the UK and Australia are big business.
They appeal not only to boxing fans but also casual sports fans.
Even as a hardcore boxing fan it is hard not to get sucked in to the hype of a big domestic showdown.
They get hyped with promos during other sporting events and the pubs and clubs have advertisements everywhere for them.

This rematch is absolutely pointless, but I get it from a financial perspective, neither man can get a bigger payday against another opponent (unless Eubank Jr somehow lucks himself into a Canelo payday)

    Thats the UK for you.

It is really popular too amongst the older generation as Eubank and Benn’s fathers were really super well known here in the UK across the 90s. Like Frank Bruno.

PPV in the US is hilarious, DAZN must be hemorrhaging cash from their heavy boxing investment.

    Its fairly easily explained.

In the U.K amongst boxing fans hardcore and casual, the Benn Eubank rivalry is the biggest. The nostalgia of their fathers fights still lives on to this day with the older generation. Eubank Sr is such a popular figure in Britain even today, his son, although not to the ability of his dad, is a popular name in Britain even to non boxing fans. The event last time was viral. The Eubank reunion, the walkouts, the fight itself. This rematch is selling for sure.

Casuals here in Britain dont need World Class operators to buy into a fight, they need hype, they need a story. This has it. Combine the fathers names with how good the first fight was in the ring, the 3 year build up outside the ring, its a massive fight. 100% a PPV fight in the U.K.

As for everywhere else, I.E, the U.S, im not sure it should be PPV, but with the timing of the fight being GMT, i dont think they really give a crap about expecting other countries to buy and if they do happy days, bonus viewers and PPV. The U.K buys alone should be enough to still grab a profit from this event.

According to Wiki, it was 620,000 Buys, 1m+ worldwide according to Hearn.. Thats why its PPV.

First one was a money grab and it sold. It sold, and it also delivered a good fight, so of course there is a rematch and it will likely sell even more.

And I can see Eubank beating a few guys in the top 10, including Adames and Lara.

I think he loses comfortably to both of them, especially Lara, Eubank is so bad fundamentally I don't think he's anywhere near the top of 160.

It was a great fight and less than top elite fighters can create wonderful fights. Gatti-Ward I was one of the best fights ever.
