Can anyone make a reasonable case for Wlad Klitschko beating Max Baer??

Wald would totally destroy Baer. He’s levels above skill wise. It would be a beating from the opening bell. Baer would fold under the slaughter like he did with Louis

You'll notice that even though Primo was floating like a butterfly, Max still managed to land a pinpoint combination to put the big man down. Quite a graceful display of footwork by both pugilists...

I just couldn't stand watching someone with such immense natural gifts (size, speed, power) fight so timidly. The Joshua fight was one of the very few fights where he showed the heart of a fighter.

 

Of course it can.

Yes Wlad lost to some punchers, but he also beat his fair share as well.

Lamon Brewster was in may opinion the hardest puncher of that era, and he went 1-1 against him.

David Haye was an absolutely devastating finisher.

We clearly can't write Wlad off here.

 

Max skipped leg day then.

 

Pretty certainly you're correct. Maybe not quite as bad as Abe Simon, who had to be the most blatant skipper of leg day. Looked like that dude wore about a 4XL shirt and size 28 pants.

I actually like watching Max fight though. Not very skilled, but he did have some thunder in that right hand. If he hooked up with a good trainer early enough in life, and he took the sport seriously (I'm assuming neither was the case), it would have been interesting to see what that might have looked like. Just a little more skill and some semblance of defense to go along with that power and he may have may ruled for quite awhile in that era, at least for as long as he could have avoided Louis.

As it was though, I really don't know what his deal was. He often didn't look like he was being totally serious in the ring. Almost looked like he gave a complete non-effort vs. Braddock for example. Always wondered how hard he actually worked on his craft. Feels like he fell way short of his potential.

 

So was Hulk Hogan. How would he do against Wlad?
