Benn Eubank 2 the biggest British fight ever?

Mad the way the hype for the first was much bigger even though the first fight was actually a good scrap and entertains. Far closer than many thought it would be. That usually brings a lot more interest for a rematch.

 

I’m going to watch this fight and thought the first was a great fight. I genuinely forgot the rematch was this weekend. I think Eubank does him this time round.

who cares, money grab, 1st one wasn't great, nothing on their fathers, simply a money grab for 1 or 2 fighters perhaps that don't even deserve it...

what happened to true champions fighting their No.1,
Contenders actually fighting one another earning their way up,
Contender FINAL Eliminators

Fights that the Boxing public actually expected based on the above, based on fair play & Sport and not Business, i.e AJ vs TF - 9 yrs ago already.

Give us Real Fights with Merited Fighters and not Sideshows - TF or capitalizing Money Grabs.

Froch Groves 2 was the biggest recent one, in my opinion.

Actual needle as opposed to the rubbish we are being fed with this pointless rematch

Benn vs Eubank happening doesn't stop other tittle fights happening, do you understand?

 

Calzaghe v Lacey was at the MEN but yes you have a point about the Hatton fights.

I will also throw in another non title fight Haye v Chisora as bigger than this fight.

it's just that some of them over the last 3 Decades have been worthless & often between undeserving fighters, best example TF!

Touts taking a hammering too (my heart bleeds!). Loads of resale tickets appearing being sold at a fraction of the original purchase price. As low as £20 yesterday when I looked.

All fights above from top of my head in my lifetime that were for me by far bigger then this and their first fight previously to take place in Britain.

 

In terms of national buy-in, Ali-Cooper was probably the best-known fight ever in the UK. Eubank-Benn 2 was up there thanks to ITV.

Fights were prime time events back then with the full weight of ITV and BBC news behind them, 40 million potential viewers etc.

Anything after around 1995 is barely mainstream at all - you could dig out PPV numbers and so on but boxing just doesn't capture attention any more.

It's fascinating, my son has grown up a bit and never watches boxing with me like he did in the Matchroom/Sky heyday but he always knows the results - it's amazing what kids can consume from social media without really seeing action. No wonder the likes of Benn gain such an undeserved reputation.

 

Can you imagine today's casual fans the way they get hyped up on social media and YouTube, with an actual grudge match like that? That was in the days The Sun or the Mirror would sponsor big fights and make sure you knew about them - the papers always paid attention to big time boxing.

 

The fight was also on Boxnation and would have been even bigger on Sky.

 

It was a fun fight as well. Great KO
