Glass Jaw Roy couldn’t even take Lou Del Valle’s punches in his ‘prime’. The Jones - Toney fight was a total disaster with lots of posing and feints and very little action. Very boring. Same for the first Hopkins fight where crowd was booing throughout.

I never understand why Jones is frequently rated on the old version, who was washed and chinny after the move down from heavy. Prime Jones showed zero issues in the chin department, all the way up to heavy let's remember. RJJ rinses GGG in a rout.

Triple G fanboys would be outraged if you assessed him using the faded version who got his ass kicked by Derevenchenko. But quick to assess the post-heavyweight version of Jones.

At least Jones showed the balls to move up multiple divisions. Unlike the man who ducked Ward to no end.

Prime RJJ, the young version, popped for PEDs once and was linked to BALCO.

Yeah, GGG who used VADA wouldve either caught RJJ cheating - he was a cheater - or wouldve stopped him. Brutally.

So does Hagler also have no balls? Keep it consistent, lil fella

Nothing wrong with fighting at one division an entire career.

I think Jones's chin at middle weight was good enough to take some shots off of Golovkin. I seriously doubt Triple G would be able to hit Roy with more than one shot at a time very often.

I agree with the earlier poster, if anyone's getting knocked out in this fight it's definitely Golovkin. He is way too straight up and down, and has nothing that Roy hasn't seen before.

Roy Jones Jr by wide unanimous decision or body shot stoppage.

There was no super middleweight division with viable fighters in it during Hagler's era, you simpleton. In fact, Hagler had already (twice) destroyed Obelmejias, who went up to become one of the earliest supermiddle champs.

Expecting Hagler to move up to fight Michael Spinks in the 80s was unrealistic.

Expecting Golovkin to move up to the division he had already fought in as an amateur to fight Ward was not unrealistic at all. Of course, Golovkin, coward that he was, wanted Ward at a catchweight.

Roy never ever ever ever pulled some catchweight BS like modern fighters do.

As usual, the Golov fanboys are talking nonsense.

Jones was 35 when his chin got smashed like glass against Tarver.

35 is not old for light heavyweight.

Bivol is 34 now (35 next month) for example and I've never heard anyone call him old.

Fighters nowadays fight once a year, if that, keeping their bodies fresher. Sports medicine is also better now. And Bivol never won a heavyweight title then within just a few months lost 25 pounds of muscle to drop back down to light heavy.

You guys are intentionally (or unintentionally) dense, and it might work with some newer fans who just started following the sport in the 2020s, but it ain't gonna work with me.

Why are people reading the question wrong?
It's not could Jones beat GGG or visa versa, it's can he take the power of GGG

Yes, he could. Theres no evidence that Golovkin hits any harder than Toney.

You can always tell when guys are newer fans. Prime Jones had a reputation for having one of the best chins in the sport. Its only these newbies with their revisionist history who falsely believe Jones in his pomp had some like Khan-like chin. He did not.

I would like for a Golovkin fanboy to explain to me why Golovkin couldn't put a dent in glass chinned Jacobs, and couldn't take welterweight Brook off his feet.

Yet Jones is supposed to fall apart if Golovkin lands on him?

Its not rooted in reality at all. Its rooted in a whole lot of recency bias and revisionist history.

I think GGG would definitely hurt him if he landed
Jones chin looked decent in his prime but no more than that as he was that good he rarely got hit flush
Jones would beat him on points all day long tho

Jones was next level in his day

Based on what would he hurt Roy? Golovkin was more of a heavy handed puncher in the Chavez mold. He wasnt some dynamic, one-punch KO artist in the mold of a Tyson, Hearns, or Jackson.

Exactly people like to compare the ages of fighters now without the context.

RJJ had 51 professional fights and 23 world title fights across 4 different weight divisions when he had his first real legit loss.

Bivol has had 25 professional fights and about 10 less world title fights.

So yes whilst RJJ was a similar age to Bivol is now when he had his first real legit loss. The context of the amount of professional fights and world title fights RJJ had in comparison to Bivol is clearly alot different.
