In a similar situation to the Leonard - Lalonde fight, how would a Spinks Vs Calzaghe fight play out?

    Good morning Fergy.

Would be a good fight but I think that Spinks would win as he was the naturally bigger man and his 'Spinks Jinx' would be a major factor.

Spinks tko Calzage not long after ninth or tenth round.

    Morning Pal.
It would be an interesting match up imo, certainly Joe had that high work rate and Spinks that awkward style.
I think Spinks gets it to, Whenever that's on points or a late ko.

I'd say the half way between 168-75 ,is the fairer.

Depends on what the catch weight actually is. While I’d make Spinks a very heavy favorite under normal circumstances, catch weights can screw a lot of guys up, especially the bigger man who has to come down. At 175 Michael didn’t look like he had much to spare

Spinks stops him, he’d land lead rights frequently which Calzaghe could be caught by against guys who knew how to set them up, and Spinks was one of the best at it, he’d use feints and distance control to put you into position for it, line you up for it etc.

Not only that, but he’d force Calzaghe to shell up and Spinks had a great punch selection in those scenarios, lead left uppercuts, bodyshots, he’d also be able to bully Calzaghe, he’s much bigger.

    Calzaghe gets knocked out.

Hopkins who had 0 stoppages at Light Heavyweight floored Calzaghe with a right hand.

Reid couldn't miss Calzaghe with right hands.

Salem dropped Calzaghe like a sack of potatoes with a right hand.

Calzaghe ate too many right hands and his defence could be very leaky at times.

Spinks is the bigger man and hits alot harder he would catch Calzaghe coming in with the Spinx Jinx and knock him out.

Not sure Spinks could weigh much less than 175. But, I pick him by stoppage over Calzaghe regardless.

Off topic, but reading this reminds me of the past matchups between Calzaghe and Hearns at 175. To me, Tommy always seemed to carry the weight better at Light Heavy than Calzaghe did and imo he would have probably beaten him by decision with some knockdowns in between. Can't miss with that right hand. How do you see it though?

When was Calzaghe ever knocked out? Answer = Never

Calzaghe had a fantastic defence ''very leaky'' is nonsense. Ironically Spinks' defense wasn't so good at 175. He got hit plenty.

When did Calzaghe ever fight a 1 punch KO artist as big as Spinks = Never.

Yeah Calzaghe had a fantastic defence I'm sure he could take flush right hands like these off a massive puncher like Spinks who's alot bigger than him.

    Depends TBH.

Calzaghe moved up kind of late to Light Heavyweight so he was a bit past his prime by that point with bad hands.

Had he moved up earlier when he was a bit more fresh I think Calzaghe would've been a bit better at the weight.

Regardless It would be fascinating though the Hearns of the Andries fight taking on Calzaghe at Light Heavyweight. It all depends on how much of an effect Hearns has on Calzaghe with his right hand.

But Calzaghe may be able to wear down Hearns with his workrate in the later rounds.

As I said it all comes to down how frequent Hearns lands his right hand and how it effects Calzaghe coming forward.
