Beterbiev throws short compact punches so fighting him off the ropes is suicide. Byrd is a light puncher but he has faced bigger stronger harder hitting guys so Beterbiev has to control Byrd with workrate
Byrd is facing a nasty stylistic matchup here, because Beterbiev has a high workrate and good boxing. Byrd was better at slipping big slow dudes who threw harder but less punches. I wouldn't write Byrd off, but I think Beterbiev should probably be favoured.
I honestly think Byrd just counters the hell out of Beterbiev and hurts him along the way. This takes place at heavyweight?
Beterbiev. Some dudes are just better off against bigger opponents than against smaller ones. Byrd himself said, I believe, that he wasn’t all that tough. He was just good at defending himself against huge, plodding HWs that threw big shots one at a time. Beterbiev already has experience fighting at 200 lbs from his amateur days, against bigger and stronger men than Byrd. He swarms him, wears him down in the clinch and probably wins a UD.
Byrd went 12 rounds with Wladimir and went 9 rounds with Vitali actually beating him. Both giant Super Heavyweights with Wladimir being considered one of the hardest hitting Heavyweights of all time. But yeah a 5'11 Light Heavyweight Beterbiev is going to stop a very durable slick Heavyweight like Byrd.
Vitali had an injured shoulder, if it wasn't for that he would have knocked out Byrd, Wlad boxed that way in that part of his career, Beterbiev has a knockout style and I repeat Beterbiev would have knocked him out...
Vitali never even came remotely close to stopping Byrd in their fight. And he never really hurt Byrd at any point in the fight in what was a competitive fight I might add. So that's just a baseless assumption. Wladimir boxed that way in his career ? Byrd went 12 rounds with Wladimir in 2000 ? That was when Wladimir was more aggressive so if anything Byrd going the distance with him taking alot of punishment shows his durability. And I repeat you're wrong.
Tua did ? Remind me how that worked out for Tua ? who is same height as Beterbiev but hits alot harder and weighs alot more.
So what if those two boxed all rounds with Byrd, Ibeabuchi brutally knocked Byrd out and that makes him a bigger puncher than Wlad and Vitali? It's all about style...
